Hearing My Money Whisked Away

If everyone is done giving their Oscar caliber performances in Washington, I would be willing to say we have all had enough. You are wasting everyone's time and a whole bunch of taxpayer's money. Yesterday there was a meeting in Washington to discuss the salacious programming on TV and radio. OK, what is the urgency now? Janet Jackson's little deal with Justin Timberlake? Is that still what all this fuss is about?

In the process, it is important to view our lawmakers in action and see just how smart they are.

(On the difference between cable and broadcast channels)

"It seems interesting that we say ... if it's on just a higher channel number, which you can get just by clicking your channel changer, we're going to ignore it and not pay attention to it," Sen. John Breaux, a Louisiana Democrat, said.

(Well, when I ignore something, I certainly don't pay attention to it either.)

"We ought to look at the whole spectrum of what we get over our televisions," he said.

Excuse me while I resort to some junior high tactics here, but DUMBASS, those are optional channels that you pay money for. I understand the prevalence of basic cable in people's houses now, but it is STILL A CHOICE. You don't have to have a television with access to pay channels on cable. It's not about numbering.

This guy might have a point, but he needs to think a little bit like his friend John McCain from Arizona about problems and solutions instead of making dumbass comments about channel numbering which isn't even close to being an issue.

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John McCain urged cable and satellite companies to offer parents the ability to pick and choose what channels they get so they can protect their children from violence, sex and profanity, an idea that resonated with other lawmakers and regulators.

Craig,

I agree totally with you - though what you are asking is for the politicians to stop being politicians. The recent boob scoop is too big for politicians to pass up. It looks good for them, people are paying attention, jump in while the fire is hot. Is it a farce? Yes, absolutely....Will something be accomplished? Probably not.
