Indecent Exposure At The Super Bowl

Written by Robbie Port

This year I chose to watch the Super Bowl with my family. Me, my sisters and my nieces and nephews all met at my parents house for sub sandwiches and football.

Everything was going fine. We laughed at the off-color Bud Light ad about the flatulent horse and the ad about the donkey who wanted to be a Budweiser Clydesdale. We were all looking forward to the halftime show where we expected to see a good show put on by MTV. What we didn't know is that we were going to be in for a peepshow.

Boy were we surprised.

When Nelly came out on stage and sang about how hot it was and how everybody should take their clothes off, we looked at each other and shrugged. Those lyrics are a little inappropriate for the kids, but oh well.

Then we reached the end of Justin Timerblake's spot. Just as the music was ending, Timberlake reached up and fondled one of Janet Jackson's breasts, then he pulled part of her shirt off exposing, or at least appeared to expose, her breast. From where we were sitting, it looked like she was halfway topless.

Now I'm wondering, why did they have to do this? What was the point? We were enjoying the half time show up to that point. In fact, I had just got done telling everybody how much better I thought this year's show was when Justin exposed Janet. Maybe Janet is trying to drum up some hype for her "sexiest album yet," but I wish she'd have found a better way to do it than exposing herself to my nieces and nephews.

If the Super Bowl wasn't such a family event, I'd say "big deal." But the fact of the matter is that the Super Bowl is a family event. Many families watch the game together, why should they have to sit through Janet exposing herself like that? I'm not trying to be a prude here, but its hard to explain to the kids in the room why the woman on the television exposed her breast in front of milliions of people.

I'm not against sexy performances, but that type of entertainment should be reserved for a time when not as many kids are watching.

Author of this article? Don't put something like that on such a talented and such a highly admired performer such as Janet Jackson. She's an amazing perfomer and knows her audience. It was a mere accident. Don't accuse her of a slight mishap that was unintentional. She is not another Little Kim setting herself up for a breast fondle by Diana Ross. Don't pass judgement without the right of it. How dare you.

I'm not sure which is sillier: Robbie actually being perturbed by the passing sight of a mere boob, or this Mini girl's self-righteous and disingenuous defense of Jackson [as if it were accidental].

I think I'll have to give the edge for foolishness to Mini. Congratulations. You're amazing, if unintentional.

I don't see what the fuss is all about. It was a PR stunt involving a tiny glimpse of her breast. It wasn't raunchy; it wasn't porn; it was hardly visible.

You all talking about this is what Janet wanted!!!

#4 — February 2, 2004 @ 13:02PM — Brooklyn Walker [URL]

What a joke! "...I wish she'd have found a better way to do it than exposing herself to my nieces and nephews." But in case you all missed it, here's a close-up freeze frame, better than you could have gotten anywhere else!

Grow up.. So the kids saw a boob.. Who cares ?

What a bunch of hypocrites.

It is ok to watch the unintelligent ramblings of "Sports heroes" and the violence of the sport, but let on boob show up and everyone is offended...

#6 — February 2, 2004 @ 16:56PM — AJ

Lil Kim had a lot more television exposure with that dress she wore to a recent awards show than Janet's two seconds of Superbowl halftime show exposure. Yet there was not even so much as a whimper of protest when the "E" network continued showing Lil Kim over and over. It was a weak stunt.

#7 — February 2, 2004 @ 18:01PM — Rob [URL]

Yes, I posted pictures of Janet's boob with this post. But notice I put a warning on it. During the Super Bowl, the kids in the room were exposed to it with no warning.

I don't care about seeing a boob. I've seen plenty of them, they're nothing new. I wouldn't even care if they wanted to turn the Super Bowl into a full-on porno event with strippers in the end zones, just give families a little warning so they can put the kiddies to bed.

#8 — February 2, 2004 @ 18:29PM — Mac Diva [URL]

So, at least two of the farthest Right participants at Blogcritics have come up with ways to post pictures of the titillating moment while simultaneously claiming to be outraged about it. Hypocrisy, thou name is Robbie Port.

Yeah right the Superbowl is family game. Don't feed the readers a bunch of fiction. Now you think the Superbowl is a family event with all the violence and many potential fights coming from the players. The coaches cursing and fussing at the referees. Although you can't hear the dialogue one can only imagine and kids have great imagination. Plus it was on a Sunday night and most kids should be in the bed. Let's not talk about the streakers in the past Superbowls that they have televised. We had one this year but it wasn't on TV but what about the kids at the game who saw it. The NFL commissioner didn't know that was going to happen either but it happens more than not and their ROBOCOP security couldn't stop. They aren't making a big deal about that. What Janet and Justin did should be the least of the worries in America we have many more issues that we need to address. I'm so tired of people picking and choosing what is right and wrong when it's conveniant for them.

Mac, if you think I'm the far right then I'd hate to know what you think of somebody like Pat Robertson. Do you even bother to read the entire entries you troll or do you just jump in?

Of course, you could always start lying about me calling you a bitch again, couldn't you? Why don't you run along and set up a few more pseudo-blogs to pump up your Ecosystem stats.

I would have had no problem with Janet Jackson going full nudity, if she had wanted, as long as they had warned us about it so the kids didn't have to see it.

Where I'm from, football is a family event. My family has always gotten together on sundays to watch the games. Regardless of whether or not you think football is for families, Janet Jackson showing her breast in that manner was uncalled for.

Do you even bother to read the names above comments, boy? I did not make the remarks you are ranting about.

Blogs that have been around nearly a year with good readership are rare. I'm proud both of mine.

Here is a pseudo-blog produced by a nitwit. And, his not at all impressive stats. And, this is in an arena dominated by the Right. Pitiful.

I grew up watching tv and it wasn't always censored
so the kids saw 4 seconds of a boob
tell them it was an accident
tell them that boobs are sexy
tell them that it's a grown up thing to do
but by making a big deal out of it, replaying it over and over again on the news, and generally drawing attention to it,
you're handling the situation like a child
it was a boob
half of the freaking nation has them
all of us have seen them
it was live tv
halfway through a game where people smash their bodies into one another
aren't there other things to worry about in life
besides
a boob?

I don't know, but nipple clamps are kinda cold about this time of year about here.

Unless you're thinking about doing some damage to the dude who wants to handle your boobie. Like tongue on the hydro pole.

#14 — February 2, 2004 @ 23:39PM — Janet Love [URL]

So now are kids going to start tearing off the clothes of anyone who's boob they want to see? Zoikes!

I've never been considered an "uptight" woman by any means. However, as a mother of two children, the half-time show was a very unpleasant situation. I want the right to know ahead of time if viewing will be suitable for my children. As a single mom, it takes every moment I have to attempt to monitor what goes on in my children's lives. That's my job. Every little bit of help that networks can give...I'll take.

Mac,

I don't think you're fooling anybody here with your lies any more. Most of the people who comment here regularly are more than familiar with your antics and selective memory.

But just in case those links aren't enough, here's a link to the post where you claimed, in the comments, that I called you a bitch and you were proven wrong. (Hint, this is where you say: Oh, THAT post...)

As far as my being from the "right," I reject that idea. I don't think I'm a "right-winger," but even if I were why would my dogmatic political leanings be any worse than your own? You've obviously decided to toe the liberal line.

As for my stats, I don't really care. I don't write on the internet for anybody other than myself. I have no pretenses. I am not a journalist, or even that good of a writer. I am simply somebody who enjoys writing. I'd be tickled pink if even one person read what I wrote a day. As it is, I have a lot more than that and its growing every day. I would also point out, for the sake of being 100% honest, that I recently switched domains, so my stats are a little misleading right now. But that's beside the point. I have nothing to prove, especially to the likes of you.

But if you think I'm a terrible writer, fine. Don't read what I write and don't waste your time commenting. You'll only encourage me.

And don't call me "boy."

Whoops, forgot the link to where you lied Mac. Sorry:

I say we let The Tit arbitrate the Rob versus Mac Diva dispute. All hail The Tit.

How come children are allowed to suck on breasts, but when one shows up on TV everyone freaks out? There are dozens of great reasons to not watch the stupidbowl, but a bare breast is not one of them.

#20 — February 3, 2004 @ 00:29AM — Kevin

What about all the semi-nude women in the commercials? Do you cover the kiddies eyes everytime Coors shows the twins in a bikini? Or what about the alcohol in general. Did ol' uncle whoever have a couple beers with the game? What is that teaching the kids? I grew up watching the same type of ads, and saw far more breasts in commercials than the 4 seconds (if that) of breast that Janet showed. Furthermore, I personally didn't know it happened until after the game when I saw it on CNN.com, ESPN.com, and many other mainstream sites. It seems like the "moral" adults are the ones acting like a bunch of Jr. High kids about a floppy 38-year-old fake breast.

#21 — February 3, 2004 @ 00:36AM — Rob [URL]

Woman exposes her breast in front of I-don't-know-how-many-kids and I get lectures about being "moral."

As I've said before, I could care less about the tit itself, just give me a little warning so I can get the kids out of the room. Doesn't seem like too much to ask.

#22 — February 3, 2004 @ 04:17AM — A

Do you also keep the kids away from the mall because the mannequins have nipples?

#23 — February 3, 2004 @ 23:36PM — cliff

And when momma gets ready to feed the youngsters, are you going to usher them out of the room too? It was a NORMAL part of the human body, that if we were all lucky, we would have had a stomache full by the time we were two.
Society hasn't found a cure for violence, but show one titty...

#24 — February 4, 2004 @ 22:34PM — Dolph

Well the whole issue had became a nationwide Nipplegate. In a country where a President had some Monica Blowinsky handy at the Oval Office at office hours, I find it hard to understand why all the excitement about the unfortunate stunt. But again I am not an American...

Take care folks :)

Y'll guys act like kids, stop arguing
