The only reason I listen to rap besides entertainment is that I can relate to what most of the rappers say. And I'm not like everyone Josh. You're comin' at rap as a whole without realizing that there are many different types, styles and forms of rap. You're clueless and you don't know what the fuck you're talkin' about. And I'm serious about that. I don't feel like talkin' to you about the different types of rap. What other type of music is morally flexible enough to allow convicted felons, drug dealers and murderers to start anew with a paper, pad and beats? The only thing these rappers do is talk about their life experiences. And if you don't respect that, you's stupid.

Alright, I'll buy that. I know that there are different types of rap, but the "gangsta" shit seems to be the most popular, wouldn't you agree? So they talk about their life experiences, well whoop-dee-doo, big fat hairy deal. There are plenty of other styles of music in which the artists talk about their life experiences, and they don't have to act like a punk to get the job done.

About the article: The "Suckerin' Rhymes" Chaos Kid is talking about are from a second track The Source was going to release, which is a freestyle where Eminem raps: "All the girls that I like to bone have the big butts, no, they don't 'cause I don't like that nigga shit, I'm just here to make a bigger hit." Based on his delivery (I have an MP3, which you can probably find on Kazaa if you look up "eminem racist"), it must've been recorded in the early '90s, which would put Em at or around 20 years old.

The track that Eminem has gone on record to defend himself about is a different song, called "Foolish Pride," which is about his ex-girlfriend. The song has a corny "Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff" sound to it, so it was likely recorded in the late '80s, meaning he would've been a teenager when he wrote it, which would make Em's apology accurate (he said he was a "stupid teen" when he did the song).

One of Source owner Benzino's rebuttals to Em's apology was that he recorded "the racist track" (whichever one he's talking about) in his early 20s, not in his teens, and that he should therefore "be crucified for lying to the press," or whatever the quote was. This is an example of The Source either: a) not knowing their shit, or b) taking Eminem's apology out of context in order to confuse people.

That's my two cents on the article/issue at hand. About the rest of the responses:

And that's probably what these rappers are. Most of these rappers come from the streets, so I guess if you just became famous like that, it's gonna take you a while for you to make the transition from a "street" personality to a more civilized one. I don't think this aspect of rap is ever gonna change. As long as there's crime, there's gonna be "gangsta" rap. So maybe it's in their nature to act like a "punk", as you call it. Here's an example. Say you move to France from the U.S., it would take you a while to get used to their customs, right? Same thing with rap. As a matter of fact, it's the same thing with all music. Look at Nirvana. Their front man killed himself because he couldn't make the transition to fame. Rapper Beanie Sigel (who's on trial for attempted murder. He didn't make the transition.) said it himself, "...Wanna make the transition, from the streets to the fame, but I can't let it weaken my game..."-(No Glory from State Property Pt.1 Album). There are some positive examples. Snoop Dogg was a former Crip. He was charged for attempted murder, but was acquited in 1996. He changed his whole attitude around. He's released songs like "Beautiful" and the like. He's made the transition. What I said may either weaken or strengthen your opinion, Josh. These rappers may run around, screaming "gangsta" and such because they haven't made the transition yet. That's the bottom line.

Actually, Kurt Cobain killed himself because he had a condition called Colitis, which leaves you in constant pain 24-7. I think that even the toughest person would eventually succumb to constant agony, don't you? Don't get me wrong, I still hate Nirvana and most new music, but I just thougt I'd share that with ya.

And you may have a point about rappers having to make the transition from street to civilized. But it just seems like some of them DON'T WANT to make that change, you know what I mean? Like the hardcore gangster types, for instance, such as 50 Cent, Ludacris and God knows whoever else. They seem like they're completely satisfied with being society outcasts. Come to think of it, there's an actual rap group that calls themselves 'Outcast'. Coincidence? I think not.

I just wanted to comment that I fully support the idea of the source trying to open Black America's eyes as far as racism is concerned. I read the articles; I heard the little free cd. I think their execution is a bit off in the fact that they pointed a lot of fingers at eminem. You have to learn how to tell the difference between smoke and fire benzino. The fact that it is in fact it is mainly an economical discrepancy is the point.
