Van Hagar in studio

Hard News reports:

According to sources close to the band, SAMMY HAGAR and the rest of VAN HALEN are currently locked away in a California studio. No word on whether they are recording a couple of tracks for the much talked about Best Of Vol. II or a full studio record. Insiders say that the band will use the Sammy Hagar pre-Super Bowl show to make the announcement of a reunion (thus ensuring international press coverage). Meanwhile, VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony has posted the following post-NAMM comments at his website: "Michael's brand-new Jack Daniel's bass made it's debut at this year's NAMM convention in Anaheim, CA. Fans in line to meet the mighty bassist at the Yamaha booth had the chance to get a look at it up close and personal while posing for pictures, getting autographs and throwin' out the questions! We're currently sorting through the bash of pictures, so stay tuned for photos! Speaking of the Jack Daniel's bass, due to some last minute technical difficulties, it's debut here at Mad Anthony's Cafe had to be delayed. However, we expect it to be unveiled in the next several days. Keep your eyes posted!" You can view a picture of Anthony and axeman GARY HOEY at NAMM at Mad Anthony Cafe.

Another ill-advised reunion. I'd just as soon see the Van Halen brothers record an instrumental album. Eddie always said he liked his music just fine without the vocals.

I hope it's a full-on album and not a teaser track like they did with the first VH best of album.

I think with around 5 years having passed there is going to be considerable musical ring rust; Hagar is into his fifties now and who knows how much is in the tank with all his partying, but I do hope they come back and rock it good one last time. VH doesn't deserve to go out on that abysmal VH 3 effort.

Sure would be nice if Diamond Dave could take part in this project somehow but not sure if egos with Eddie and he could mix ever again.

don't think that rust will be an issue for Sammy as he's been pretty active with the Waboritas.

it's weird but i kind of like much of his solo material...but never liked anything he did in Van Halen.

Hagar was always cooler without Van Halen, just as Van Halen was very cool with David Lee.....the Van Hagar combo never produced very good music. For some reason, the edge just wasn't there....

Chris, I agree about Van Hagar entirely. I thought Hagar was great in Montrose, but that was about 30 years ago.

Van Hagar might have been disappointing to some, but sales-wise they had some of their biggest success with Van Hagar:

----
Hagar era
----
5150: multi-platinum (6.9 million)
OU812: multi-platinum (4.4 million)
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge: mult-platinum (3.8 million)
Balance: multi-platinum (2.9 million)

----
Roth era
----
1984: diamond (10+ million sold)
Diver Down: multi-platinum (4 million)
Fair Warning: multi-platinum (3.4 million)
Women and Children First: multi-platinum (4.3 million)
VH 2: multi-platinum (5.7 million)
Van Halen: diamond (10.3 million)

And ... as for the one Cherone led album:
VH3: Gold (549,095)

my first encounter with Hagar was as the warmup band for Boston. he was really great back then. lots of fun...back when guitar solos were cool.

oh...and back to the Van Hagar thing...what really bummed me out (aside from the totally hack lyrics...too many cliches, too many love songs) was the sound of the drums. it sounded like alex was whackin' pop tarts together.
