Today we lament the passing of Captain Kangaroo. Bob Keeshan, age 76, died January 23, 2004.

Captain Kangaroo was definitely my favorite fun guy back when I was a tyke. The anarchic thrill of those ping pong balls raining down on his head was something that you'd just never get from Fred Rogers.

Here's the most interesting bio I could find.

Happy trails, Captain.

Unreformed hawkish Hoosier hillbilly and sometimes candidate Al Barger runs the still squeezin' down the psychodelic Kentucky moonshine at MoreThings.com, what with the paranoid religious visions and the Pentacostal music and visions of God and anarchy running amok and such. Somebody oughta call the cops to report his out of control freedom of conscience. Till they come to take him away somewhere where he can't hurt anyone else, you can check out his weekly column of NEW ALBUM RELEASES.

He was purposely playing a grandpa character from the beginning of his show. This is much as Louis Marshall Jones was "Grandpa Jones" at age 22. Some folks were just born to be grandfolk.

Let's not forget that the good Captain
was an advocate for the legalization of

Green Jeans did spend an awful lot of time in the garden.HHMMMMMMMMMMM.
