American Idol: Emphasis On Horrifying Crap This Week

I guess we know what's in store for this week. American Idol runs three times this week - tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday - for a total of five hours of audition footage, two hours more than last season:

The fun, of course, is in the hunt. The audition segments have been stretched to five hours - three this week (tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday) and two more next week. "I wouldn't watch the show unless there were loads of bad people, because that's what I like watching," Cowell says. [USA Today]
So in other words, if you don't want to see a whole lot of crappy singing and flamboyant insults from Cowell, dismissive head shaking from Randy Jackson, and disappointed cooing from Paula Abdul, then blow this week off.

These are the only shows of this awful crap show I will watch. I can't stand to hear the mediocre singers for the rest of the season, but I'll gladly watch the horrible fools who get up in front of cameras to display their complete lack of talent for a couple days.

are these initial contestants "for real"?

i mean, i saw an ad for one of the shows...it's just hard for me to believe that anybody that bad would go to the trouble of getting on the show just to be shot down.

maybe i've givin' people too much credit or something.

You know they move the real dogs to the front of the line for their sadistic humiliation value. I even hate the brief excerpts in the previews when the poor, benighted victim's face melts under the withering abuse - it really makes me ill. But I liked the real competition last season.

I read somewhere that they'll take the really bad ones and put them before the main judges - just like the fantastic ones. The sad thing is, the poor ones think they actually have a chance.

I'd personally rather watch paint dry though. Another business strategy to produce yet another "singer" who will have his fifteen minutes and be done, making no contribution to the world of music at large.

That's pop, though.

You see that stadium of people they have auditioning? I can't believe the small cross section of people we are seeing are all the worst ones. They probably could run 20 hours of worst footage. Maybe on the next DVD set we'll get that.

Haven't really heard any outstanding contestants yet, but it's early.

Due to my schedule I ended up not seeing any of this. But that's probably for the best as I hate the gratuitous cruelty of shooting fish in a barrel. How can Simon work up any enthusiasm fro insulting the talentless and seriously deluded?
