"Devil's Knot" author scores interview with Echols' wife

Mara Leveritt, author of Devil's Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three, scores an interview with Lorri Davis, the wife of Damien Echols, who is currently on death row in Arkansas.

Echols was convicted in 1993 of having black hair and listening to Ozzy Osbourne. Well, actually it was more than that. He also read a book by Aleister Crowley. Having convinced the Arkansas jury that Echols committed these crimes against Jesus, the unscrupulous police and prosecutors found it easy to get the jury to convict him of murders he likely did not commit.

Lorri Davis saw the first documentary about the case in 1997 (two other likely innocents were also convicted) and began corresponding with Echols. Now they're married. What kind of person would marry a death-row inmate?

Leveritt's interview gives a pretty good idea. It may put a lump in your throat.

I enjoyed this interview and thank you for posting it. I have read 'Devil's Knot' and seen the two "Paradise Lost" documentaries and have always been rather disturbed by this case. What I appreciate about the book is it reveals the weak case against the three teenagers. Unfortunately, Damien's wife going public will do little to alter the course of events, whatever they may be.

I dunno Chris, I disagree. Lorri going public can greatly influence public opinion here in Arkansas. Creating public awareness is the first step in creating a public furor don't ya think?
