What Hath Godzilla Wrought?
Published January 07, 2004
K-A-I-J-U, yes Kaiju. It's monster slugfest time kids!!!!! Any of you out there hip to this growing (albeit slowly and on an underground level) phenomenon? Kaiju, which translates loosely to mean a mysterious beast, is what might've happened if Godzilla and his pals joined the WWF. It's a crosss between big time wrasslin', Jackass, out of control psilocybin fueled frathouse hi-jinx.
What we've got here is a bunch of goofballs running around in their foam rubber monster suits kicking, punching, choking, biting, stomping, body slamming and just generally knocking the snot out of each other (and some cardboard models of Tokyo) while a Referee looks on and the commentator/MC "Young" Louden Noxious gives us play by play a la Vince MacMahon. Kinda like "Destroy All Monsters" staged live in the squared circle with some new & different monsters like Gobi Man, Hell Monkey and Mung Wun. This grappling gang of foam fiends are led by the evil Dr. Cube who wants to (naturally) take over the earth.
But in this corner and representing the forces of good are hi carb heroes such as "The Silver Potato" and "Los Platanos." I just happened to catch this "Big Battle" one night on MTV 2, while channel surfing.
It offered a welcome respite from The Grinch, Rudolph, Wonderful Life and all the usual holiday fare. Mr. David Borden is the brains behind this monster mashin'. "Kaiju Big Battle" is completely tasteless, retarded and devoid of any redeeming social value, in other words it's one heck of a lot of fun.

Soundacious,I'm glad you got something out of the post.If you turn up more on Kaiju related stuff you should post it.
I think this stuff is soooooooo cool.
It's so ridiculous, theatre of the absurd
Toho style. For some reason I could just
see this as a weekly show running before
or after MST3000 maybe
Oh, oh, there goes Tokyo
Go, Go, Godzilla, Yeah!
I was looking for articles pertaining to
Kaiju and Godzilla/Toho Studio related
stuff. How cool, found this one in the BC
archives plus some Godzilla posts there
as well.

Thanks for telling me about this, HW. I am truly captivated and must see more. A quick Google pulled up kaiju.com as an interesting source.
