Over at WebProWorld the search-engine-optimizer types are offering an interesting set of predictions about Google in 2004.
Some of the predictions sound prescient:
Getting visibility in Google News will become a PR priority.
Google News will top the Nielsen NetRatings and Media Metrix scores as one of the top ten brands in its category.
There will be a big push to get Google onto cell phones and PDAs.
...Google [will be] killing the Yellow Pages once their localized search is in full effect.
Froogle will become more integrated into the search results where the search phrase is a specific brand name, but even this will become geo-targeted.
The butler (Jeeves) will be at your door more.
ZEAL will give DMOZ a run. Already several are reporting that MSN rankings moved up dramatically after listing with ZEAL.
Another set of predictions are tongue-in-cheek — fiction in good fun:
Google's IPO fizzles after the new non-relevant search results cause searchers to stop using them entirely. When they announce they've gone back to the pre-Florida algorithm, they gain back their die-hard fans. But it seems like too little, too late for most of the remaining public.
Google Print's successful launch will lead to a wave of keyword-stuffing in books, and the most common name for Chapter One of romance novels will be 'breast, breasts | Chapter One Breasts'.
Google's ranking method will be revealed to involve a large warehouse where monkeys throw darts at a massive internet network map.
