"Still Holding" - by Bruce Wagner

The third book in his "cellular trilogy" - the first two were entitled "I'll Let You Go" and "I'm Losing You" - this is a savagely amusing, funny-as-hell-at-times novel of today's Hollywood, written by someone who knows: Wagner created the short-lived but very controversial and popular TV series "29 Palms," and has done a number of screenplays.

The book centers on one Kit Lightfoot, a kind of Tom Cruise-magnitude mega-star, who's making a movie about a a brain-damaged guy. While the movie's being shot, Lightfoot's assaulted in a liquor store and himself becomes brain-damaged.

There's a lot of other weird stuff, involving look-alikes for stars and their own weird Hollywood lives, as well as Lightfoot's father and his best friend, Alf, who ends up fucking Lightfoot's girlfriend Viv, herself a J-Lo magnitude star, while Kit rehabs.

I laughed out loud several times, and skipped a lot of stuff about Buddhism and the like (Wagner's a big-time Buddhist). I recommend going to Barnes & Noble or Borders, getting this book off the shelf, and spending an hour with it in a comfy chair. Lots of fun.
