"Pirates of the Caribbean" DVD

Couldn't get enough of "Pirates of the Caribbean"? Then the DVD version may be for you.
I didn't see the summer blockbuster from Disney in the theater this summer. My first viewing was at home on the two DVD Collector's Version. There's no way I can really give it an accurate review as a movie, for I saw it the same week as "Return of the King", and my mind is still boggling from that. If you want a review of "Pirates" as a movie, see the reviews from Blogcritics Josh or Nick. Instead, this review will look at the DVD features.
Disney says there are over 10 hours of special features on the two DVDs, and depending on how you count them, there could actually be more. There's the "Making of" documentary; multiple audio commentaries, including one by the director, Gore Verbinski, and Johnny Depp; a bloopers reel; deleted and alternative scenes; a technical discussion called "Moonlight Serenade" that shows how the special effects are created; and various collections of photo diaries of the production.
If you pop the DVD into a computer, there's more. The most interesting, from my perspective, is the Script Scanner. It loads the movie into a mini-window on the left, and the screenplay on the right. You can then scroll the screenplay to keep track of the movie. What I noticed is that the lines Johnny Depp said in the movie were often a little bit more intricate, or had a bigger vocabulary, than what was in the screenplay. For instance, when he briefly takes Keira Knightly hostage on the docks, the screenplay says "My pistol and belt, please" while Depp says in the movie "My effects, please".
Kids may be more interested in the "Moonlight Becomes You" effects studio, where you can load in a picture of yourself and then morph it into a skeleton like the cursed pirates. There is also a Disneyland Pirates Virtual Reality viewer that didn't want to work on my computer. It kept on asking for a QuickTime update, and would then crash with a script error before it could get it. There were also quite a few Disney marketing tools and tricks on the DVD (like a birthday club), although you can avoid them.
If you enjoyed the movie the first time, the DVD is certainly a good value. For about the cost of two regular-priced adult admissions, you get the movie, plus all the extras, for keeps; plus the popcorn is cheaper at home.

Keith Richards was said to be the model for Johnny Depp's character, and it was his 60th birthday this past week. Aye, mateys, yo ho ho, and all that. I particularly like the bit about Keith acting like "Keith".
Interesting article -- I especially liked
" Cold turkey is not so bad after you've done it "10 or 12 times", he once opined."
The good ship "Cold Turkey" wouldn't that make a great name for a pirate ship?
Arrggghhh.
Pirates is borinbg enough as a movie, Depp at his worst slurring and schlepping his way through the movie.
I need to see the last line of the movie in print please !!!I re-played it 20 times and cannot make ou the words. Please help!!!!!!!!!
