Famous Christmas Phrases

The other night we were having a contest trying to remember some of the most memorable phrases from classic holiday films, like Scrooged and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. (Our taste runs to the irreverent.) Here are some of the ones we came up with:

  • Most Famous: "Bah Humbug!" from A Christmas Carol.
  • Most Sappy: "Everytime a bell rings an angel gets its wings" from It's a Wonderful Life.

  • Most Irreverent: "The bitch hit me with a toaster!" from Scrooged.
  • Most Ungrammatical: "God bless us everyone" from A Christmas Carol.
  • Most Famous Last Words: "It's Christmas and we're all in misery" from Christmas Vacation.
  • Best Borrowed Line: "You was smoochin' with my brother" from Home Alone.
  • Best Show Stealer: "Some city slicker stole yo' gal" from Holiday Inn.

  • Most Politically Incorrect: "We'll follow the old man" from White Christmas.
  • Best Melody Line: "He's a mean one, Mr. Grinch" from How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
  • Best Overall: "You'll shoot your eye out!" from A Christmas Story.
  • OK, Blog Critics, your best lines?
