Dedications from Home

Have a friend or loved one serving overseas? Want to find some way to thank the men and women in the armed forces for the sacrifices they're making? The general public can no longer send Christmas cards to the troops, thanks to the anthrax scares, but we can send a song and a message via internet.

An Ohio disc jockey has joined forces with the USO of Northern Ohio to create a website devoted to sending music and messages to the troops - DedicationsFromHome.com. The service is free for relatives of service members, ten dollars for everyone else. (Part of the fee goes to the USO.) Dedications may be made up to January 31. And it isn't just for Ohioans.

More about the site and the disc jockey can be found here:

Benjamin is an Air Force veteran who worked in the computer business for 35 years and as a disc jockey specializing in oldies. He said he hopes to make it easy for people at home to reach out to the troops — those at home and around the world.

``I know that most soldiers have access to the Internet,'' said Benjamin.

He said he has every song in Billboard magazine's Top 100 since 1955 and has 99 percent of those ranking 101 to 135 since 1959. About 77 percent of his music is on compact disc, he said.

With placement on the Internet, he said, the songs and messages can be heard by soldiers and others 24 hours a day.

...Dedications can be made to individuals, units or all military personnel.
