Punks use Bush as an excuse to tour

Welcome to the increasingly partisan world of popular music — where President George W. Bush is a marked man. Thirty major artists
interviewed for this story cited many concerns: U.S. policy on Iraq, the Patriot Act, the Bush administration's assault on the environment, the economy and the media. But they all agreed that as the 2004 presidential election gets closer, it is time to mobilize. ... At Punkvoter.com, more than 100 bands, including NOFX, Green Day and Offspring, are creating voter-registration drives, a political action committee and a Rock Against Bush Tour." (11/26/03)

Bush is a marked man, alright. He'd better watch out- NOFX and Green Day are on the case! Dubya should be quaking in his boots. His days are numbered.

Which provides an answer to the question, what would be even more laughable than the ire of the Dixie Chicks?

I hung out with Tom Tomorrow & Jello Biafra a few weeks ago.

Jello Biafra said that Fat Mike of NOFX really wanted to defeat Bush, so he was working hard on the punkvoter site and Rock Against Bush.

Don't underestimate the impact if could have. One of the reasons Clinton won in 92 was increased registration and turnout among young voters.

In isolation, it won't be enough but along with the Soros voter reg. drive and other efforts, it could help beat Bush in both popular and electoral votes this time.

I'm sure it will work as well as Rock Against Reagan did. Boy, wasn't President Mondale great?

It's great to see so many bands, some without a high school diploma even, tell others how to run the country.

WHY WOULD A PUNK-POP BAND LIKE NOFX THINK THAT THEY HAVE THE POWER TO TELL PEOPLE WHO TO VOTE FOR? I MEAN WHAT KIND OF EDUCATION DOES FAT MIKE HAVE? REALLY.. WHY IS IT THAT EVERYTIME A REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT IS ELECTED, THAT PEOPLE LIKE NOFX, AND OTHER WANNABE PUNK-POPPERS UNITE TO ROCK AGAINST THEM... IT'S FUNNY HOW THEY TRY BRAINWASHING THEIR YOUNG FAN BASE. I MEAN WHAT IF I LISTEN TO NOFX AND HAPPEN TO LIKE BUSH.. DOES THAT MEAN THAT I'M NOT A "TRUE" NOFX FAN? I THINK THESE BANDS SHOULD SEPERATE THEIR MUSIC FROM THEIR OWN POLITICAL VIEWS.. THEY JUST WANT TO PRETEND THAT THEY HAVE AN ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE WORLD, WHEN REALLY ALL THEIR INFORMATION COMES FROM PEOPLE LIKE MICHAEL MOORE... WHO TWIST AND DISTORT THE TRUTH... I'M A HARDCORE PUNK AND HAVE BEEN ALL MY LIFE, AND I JUST SEE BANDS LIKE NOFX TRYING TO FURTHER THEIR CAREERS BY ROCKING AGAINST BUSH AND OTHER REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTS, BUT THEN NOT SAYING CRAP ABOUT GUYS LIKE BILL CLINTON, WHO WAS IN MY OPINION, ONE OF THE WORST PRESIDENTS THE UNITED STATES HAS EVER HAD.. WHAT ABOUT WHEN CLINTON SENT TROOPS OVER SEAS, WHERE WAS FAT MIKE AND THE REST OF THE TOOLS.. More or less.. they just want a reason to go on tour and make money.

Wow. You obviously have as much education as they do.

I'M A HARDCORE PUNK AND HAVE BEEN ALL MY LIFE,

Congratulations. What do you want, an award?

BILL CLINTON, WHO WAS IN MY OPINION, ONE OF THE WORST PRESIDENTS THE UNITED STATES HAS EVER HAD.

Is there something you don't like about having a job?

AND GOOD WORK ON THE CAPS LOCK. IT REALLY MAKES YOUR POST MAKE MORE SENSE.

yeah Pantera Psyco, shut the hell up. There are no more "hardcore punks". You were born in 1985 in the rich white ghetto, buy your cloths at Good Will because it's stylish, not because you have to, and steal your cloth pins. You drive a 1979 Ford Grenada w/ TxRx written on the side in black sharpie because you think you grew up in Suburbia.

Just shut the hell up.

And God forbid someone go on tour and make money.

What do you know about politics asshole? I'm so proud that you are "hardcore punk". Obviously you have no idea what is going on in the world! Bill Clinton was a good president, he did more for this country than you know. All George Bush has done since he took office was take this country to a not necessary war, take jobs from this country and bring them across seas, enable Osama Bin Laden to slip through the cracks, true he did catch Saddam, but have you heard about him since?, declare mission accomplished when the promise he had made to the American people to catch Osama was not fufiled, ruin the economy, and fuck up the american way of life. You my friend are confused, you are not hardcore punk, you are a discrase to the scene and i hope all the "conservitave punks" get whats coming to them. We need to take a stand against corprate america and bands make that possible. Bands like NOFX and Anti-Flag have a message they are trying to send to the youth, if they were in it to just make money they would be touring with justin timberlake. It is not just that dubya is a republican it is that he has fucked up the country, i am not all for Kerry, but if we don't get a smarter leader in the white house this year, we are in big trouble. and the youth is going to have to pay for dubya's war, we are billions of dollars in the whole, we are borrowing money from other countries which could possibly lead to war if we can't return the money. if dubya can't keep a simple oil company from going bankrupt then how do we expect him to run a country. i realize i wrote a lot, but we have to understand that if we all keep fighing nothing will ever get accomplished, we need to unite against george bush and the bands are just helping us little people do that, www.punkvoter.com is a web site that does just that.

you seem to be someone who is obviously is against freedom of speech, dont sit there and say that nofx are trying to push their beleifs on youth, as they are a band, they write the songs, therefore they are the views of the band, would you rather send in some lame love song about bush and have them sing it for you?

#10 — May 14, 2006 @ 08:46AM — Smithirteen

ps you call yourself a "hardcore punk" and your obsessed with pantera, contradiction

#11 — September 17, 2006 @ 23:25PM — nirvanaguru [URL]

Man you peeps are wrong Bush is one of the best presidents that we'v ever had. Did you know that we (our troops) have found over 600 canisters of vh nerve gas I THINK that qualifies as WMD

#12 — October 24, 2006 @ 16:06PM — just_some_guy

i just don't like the idea that it's not okay for other countries to have wmd's and that we have to go make sure they don't, even if we have to use wmd's to do so(which bush has said will happen if he see's it necessary). what message does this act of hypocracy send the to the rest of the world. it makes the united states of america look bad. it's like saying "you can't have a gun. and if i catch you with a gun, i might shoot you."

#13 — October 24, 2006 @ 16:19PM — just_some_guy

ps. to answer pantera-psyko's question "I MEAN WHAT KIND OF EDUCATION DOES FAT MIKE HAVE?". fat mike went to SFSU where he majored in political science. but even if he didn't, are you saying that uneducated people don't deserve a political opinion? it doesn't take a bachelors degree to be able to follow current events and politics. and i just noticed that your comment was posted well over 2 years ago so you will most likely never read this. well to anyone else reading this...i disagree with that dude.
