Glen gets busted for DUI

CMU reports that:

US country singer Glen Campbell - he of 'Rhinestone Cowboy' - has been
arrested for drink-driving, hit and run, and assaulting a police officer.
The charges follow an incident where Campbell crashed his BMW and then drove off - although no one was hurt in the incident the singer was still legally
obligated to stop. A witness followed Campbell to his Arizona home before
calling police officers. They found the singer was really rather drunk and
arrested him for drink driving and hit and run. The assaulting a police
officer bit was added when, while being questioned, Campbell kneed an
officer in the thigh. Word is he has been released on a £1200 bond and is
now awaiting a court date.

It was also reported that during and after his arrest he was saying things like "Do you know who I am?" and while he was in the jail cell they heard him singing Rhinestone Cowboy.

Honestly, I am not making this up.

Another proud moment in Arizona history. I saw this on the news the other night and they reported that he was having wild mood swings, crying one minute, serenading the cops the next.

Maybe he and Diana Ross can get together next time they go out drinking . . .

"By the time I get to Phoenix,
I'll be in handcuffs.
I'll shove my knee into a cop
And miss his groin..."

looks like the wheels fell off the wagon - he's a bit old now for such things

Unfortunately, DUI is an offense that doesn't discriminate between the rich
and the poor. The rich just do it in fancier cars. DUI, above all else,
indicates an alcohol or drug problem, and may be the culmination of many years
of screaming for help. We should not judge DUI defendants who have not caused
injury or death, but instead reach out to them so that they don't do it again
with more tragic results.

Sincerely,

Dan, dear, are you implying the (so I'm told) upstanding members of Blogcritics might need you for something? A BC tope, smoke or snort? Surely not.

I would say there is an enormous difference between rich and poor regarding DUI: if you have enough moeny you will hire an attorney of experience and reputation, who will throw every possible tactic at your case, which is just one of many in the system from the prosecution's perspective. As such you are much more likely to get a deal of some kind, avoiding the worst of what the system has to offer.

Then, in Southern California anyway, even if you are convicted of something, you can pay to serve your time at a daytime only facility that is in essence like doing community service. Those who can't afford it go to jail and stay there until their time is served.

I went through this process twice in less than two years in the late-'80s, then I quit drinking for almost ten years. I'd say, from experience, it's time for Glen to get a freaking clue.

I'm not implying that anybody on this upstanding blog would get a DUI in Arizona, but if they did I certainly would be happy to help if called upon.

I agree that certainly there is a difference between the results that the rich may get in a DUI case vs. the results of the poor. I am simply saying that money doesn't stop people from making poor choices in regards to alcohol and driving.

Peace.

Dan

Seattle DUI Attorney Peter Peaquin
is an excellent choice if you need defense or just good information on
Washington State DUI Law.

Does anyone know the outcome of this case?

Gayle... I'm not sure, but I would imagine that, because of lengthy
DUI process in Arizona, that the
case may still be pending. Did you know that then
DUI penalties in Arizona just
went up in March?  Now it is even more expensive to get a DUI in Arizona. P.S., tell the guys I say hi.

I'm sure that everybody who reads this website has heard by now that he was
convicted of an Arizona Extreme DUI, with a stipulated sentence of 10 days in
jail. People may think that he got the shaft, but in reality he got a good deal
and his attorney did a good job for him as he was facing charges of assaulting a
police officer. I Arizona, DUI is very
serious, but not as serious as assaulting a law enforcement officer. In
Washington State, the same DUI would
only carry a day or two in jail.
