Hanson plays too hard

Isaac Hanson is in hospital being treated for a blood clot in his right arm,
apparently brought on by strumming his guitar too much! The band's New York
publicist told reporters: "He'll be in the hospital for a few days. He's
uncomfortable, obviously, but he'll be fine."

Marty's band, Growing Old Disgracefully, can be found at: Disgraceful Music. His Cthulhu tales can be found at Temple of Dagon.

I had something similar happen to me this year when I got my new acoustic guitar. It has a much bigger body than my previous acoustic guitar and I ended up hurting the inside of my right elbow. Because of the pressure and the movement on my right elbow as I played guitar I pinched a nerve and my fingers (specifically my thumb) became numb pretty much all of the time. I got better too, but it was really scary to think I could get hurt playing guitar.

The worst guitar related injury I've ever had was a gash on my forearm from trying to pull out a stuck string from the saddle with a pair of forcepts. It was stuck and then suddenly came loose, with the tip of the forcepts gouging my arm.

i tried the pete townshend windmill thing...and did succeed in cutting my hand all to hell.

though my worst guitar unjury happened when i reached toward the head with my right hand (i think to tune a string) and got poked underneath a fingernail by the end of a string (dang, it still hurts to even think about it).

Changing strings can really be a scary proposition sometimes. On more than one occasion I end up with nasty puncture wounds. Those hurt like a sumbitch.

No, not that, "strumming his guitar". We've all got a name for it I suppose.

The guitar can be a volatile WMD, besides the aforementioned puncture wounds and paralysis, there's vicious callous development, perma-cramp in the left hand, notto mention El kabong contusions. Good thing I mostly stay clear these days.
