With Jackson now booked for a court appearance in January there's very little left to report unless more children make similar allegations. Therefore much media attention has now turned to the identity of the child who made the latest set of allegations. Rumour has it that the allegations have been made by a 12 year old cancer sufferer from LA called Gavin. If those rumours are true it is likely the child in question is Gavin Arvizo, who appeared sitting with Jackson in Martin Bashir's controversial ITV documentary earlier this year.

Finally on all things Jackson, Sony Music will be eagerly waiting to see what impact the scandal will have on record sales, given all these shenanigans happened the day after the record label released Jacko's new greatest hits album 'Number Ones'. There is split opinion over whether, given the nature of the charges, the front page news coverage and subsequent cancellation of promotional TV shows in both the UK and US, will have a negative impact on record sales. Some argue "no publicity is bad publicity" and the scandal may, in fact, boost sales.

Midweek sales figures indicate Jackson will top the album chart this weekend - although most of those sales came from before the scandal broke. HMV's Gennaro Castaldo told reporters: "His album has been selling very well and we would expect it to sell well over 100,000 by the end of the week. It will be interesting to see what effect the investigation has, but I suspect that the album will carry on selling. I think the public can separate Michael Jackson the recording artist from Michael Jackson the man. Of course it will depend on how serious the allegations prove to be. But we won't be withdrawing his products from our stores. We're not here to judge him or act as a censor - it is up to customers to make their own informed choice."

Jackson's greatest hits has been released in a competitive week for music in the UK of course. New albums from Kylie Minogue and Busted are also competing for high chart entries, as is the reworked version of the Beatles' 'Let It Be' album.
