Skillet: Collide
Published November 21, 2003
People: Bob, James, Bob 2, and John.
Setting: A silver 1995 Ford Tarus. Bob 2 is driving. John is in the passenger seat. Both Bob and James are in the back.
Bob 2: Man, this radio rock shit is getting out of control. Every time I turn on the radio it's the same ol' generic thing. I mean, every song sounds the same! It's like Creed cloned themselves.
James: That idea is, indeed, frightening.
Bob 2: Perhaps not as frightening as the concept of there actually being so many bands who sound just like Creed.
James: For real. I'll bet if we turn to the local X radio station, the first three songs we hear will wear their Creed influence all over their sleeve.
*John flips the radio from NPA to The X*
James: I'll give the play-by-play. Lets see. *pauses* First we have 12 Stones, a band that features low, distorted-but-all-too-produced guitars, not too unlike a certain band we all know and lust, *clears throat* I mean, hate... *pauses for effect* Creed.
Bob: Did they get Sapp to do guest vocals on this song or something?
Bob 2: I wish. But no.
John: And they're on the same label. If you like Creed, Wind-Up is your best friend.
*All four wait with a pained expression for the song to end.*
James: Oh! A new song, finally!
Bob: Or is it new? It sounds just like the last one.
James: Ha! This is Nickelback. My appologies.
John: Bah. With our luck we're going to get a Staind single next. Woopiedodah.
Bob 2: Oh you better believe it.
*Song draws to a close. The radio crackles and the announcer comes on.*
Wow! What a great tune! Don't worry, folks. There's more where that came from coming up next...
Bob 2, James, Bob, John: *groans*
...so hold your horses! Staind up next!
John: Well, let's save ourself the trouble of actually listening to the song. We all know what Staind sounds like.
Bob: Creed.
James: Well, let's put in a cd, then.
Bob, John, Bob 2: Please, lets!
Bob: What do we have?
Bob 2: The new Emmylou, the first Zepplin, new Outkast, a ZZ Top, Skillet, Polyphonic Spree...
John, interrupting: What's Skillet?
Bob 2: *blinks* Don't know. It's my grandson's album. He bought it yesterday.
*John, James, and Bob each mutter things about their grandchildren's taste in music*
(silence)
James: Well hey, let's see what it's like. if it's too bad, we can get him some good music for Christmas.
*Everyone shrugs*
Bob: Sounds good to me.
*The music starts blasting*
Bob 2: What the f... is there any difference between this and our X radio station? This is pure radio friendly hard rock pap.
James: And I thought their old stuff had an industrial influence. This is just guitar driven, nasaly vocal fried, Creed cloning shit.
*pause*
John: Even the lyrics have that religious slant to them...
*All three glare at John*
Bob 2: Nothing wrong with that. I'd rather my grandson listen to lyrics like this than, say, Slipknot. However, the music. God, what mindless music!
James: Well, I know I'll be donating $10 to the "Let's give Bob 2's grandson a good taste in music" Fund.

OK OK OK> u guys have pissed me off... First of all, Creed is an ALRIGHT band, i like SOME of their songs, they get kinda boring sometimes but hey, its better than some other music, n besides, they're christian, and that's the fkin problem u got, since u ppl are all satanics that refuse to everything from God but want everything that comes from hell, so if u offend Creed, is like ur offending God, n if u offend God, ur offending me, n by offending me, u not only get enemy, but it's also against the law, tho is a "free country" n the so kalled "freedom of speech" but eveyrhintg has a law, rule and u need liscence for all, for this website, even for fishing! So what the hell, and also, not all rock sounds the same, some do, specially punk and deathmetal, where i do agree that u kannot hear n understand whut they are saying.
Rock has many types of music to it, and it takes more dedication that other kinds of music, at least WAY more then rap, you just have to know more about the variety of rock before judging. Same with Skillet, u have to kno more bout them before judging them. they DO NOT sound like Creed, their style is not religious at all, if i listened jst the guitars or intros of their songs, i'd think is just another secular band, but they ARE christian, and thats also the problem u ppl have.
So next time u do that kind of "critique" (kos is not reely a critic since u dont kno sht bout anything u talk about, like that ALL bands sound like creed, i mean, only a few of them sound almost the same but thre are many more bands and many more styles) you better get at least a background info on what you are talking about.
may God bless you (although He would not have cause, n maybe not get angry, but well, im human, we are humans so we make mistakes... so if i have offended you, my apologies)
"n besides, they're christian, and that's the fkin problem u got, since u ppl are all satanics that refuse to everything from God but want everything that comes from hell,"
That's just ridiculous. I don't think that anybody here is a Satanist.
Now then, maybe Skillet isn't a Creek clone completely, however, the new cd is definately that radio friendly alternative rock. The same people who would enjoy listening to above bands would also enjoy Skillet. And I'll stick by that until I gasp for my last breath.
There are a few good Skillet songs out there, namely "More Faithful", unfortunately that song does not appear on this cd, so it's a moot point.
...i need to learn to proof read my comments. I meant "Creed", obviously, not "Creek"
When I heard Creed the first time, the My Own Prison song, I thought, wow, that's good, whose this? But I got tired of them real fast. There's a dull sameness to it.
I haven't ever heard Skillet. Or maybe I've just been too preoccupied to pay attention, so I'll take your word for it.
First of all I am a Christian and both Skillet and Creed have been in my list of top bands at one time or another. Creed's first album was amazing and really cought my attention. Ever since then they've gone downhill though. I don't really listen to them anymore. About Creed being a christian band, Earlier in their career they announced that they WEREN'T a christain band. They said they just had religous lyrics. Then Scott had some religious awakening and now calls the band a Christian band. Skillet is in no way or form a Creed clone. This is the second album of their 6 albums that i could say even remotely sounds like creed. (The first being their first album WHICH WAS RELEASED BEFORE CREED EVER EXISTED. I'd say it's closer to Nirvana than Creed though. What's next, are you going to call them a Nirvana clone) Skillet is an amazing band who can completely change how they sound between albums and still make good music. And about skillet and how fuxerjoo said "their style is not religious at all" , DO YOU EVEN LISTEN TO THE LYRICS???!!! All they ever talk about is God. "What you got What you want What you need Gonna be your savior" "This generation is dying to see Who You are and how You free Come Lord Jesus come" "You are my hope You are my strength You're everything Everything I need" these are just a few of their lyrics from 3 different albums. All they ever talk about is our savior Jesus Christ. This is very different from Creed who just touches on the surface of truly religous lyrics.
the above comments are evidence of why Christian music sucks. It's because Christians like crappy music. Good Lord, thou hast given us the gift of good taste. Why don't people use it?
Jesus wouldn't listen to Creed.
Hey andy......thats a great generalization. Let's just say that every Christian in America has horrible taste.....Seeing that the majority of people in this country are Christians....Let's just make another generalization and say that everyone in america likes crappy music except for Andy....and maybe i'm making an assumption but it doesn't sound like you're a Christian by your comments.... Maybe you should get to know Jesus so u could really know what Jesus would listen to. I for one know he wouldn't seeing that they use the lord's name in vain in the song "whats this life for". But not because of their "crappy music" that the all knowing Andy seems to think.
Jesus died a loooong time ago, it's a little late to get to know him!
Yeah, but at least the smell has faded by now...
Hmmm. While I agree that Creed got old quick, I thoroughly enjoy the new "old" Skillet sound! I listened to their early stuff (what, 10 years ago maybe?) and liked it, but then they got "soft" and started sounding like every other pop-rock band out there. Skillet "was Creed" before Creed showed up :-) They have a much harder, driven sound than Creed, and better vocals in my opinion. John's (lead singer) voice is unique, and that's what I like. The first time around, I think they were a little ahead of their time on the Christian music scene. Now, the timing is right, and lots of people like their sound. By they way, I'm NOT young. I'm an almost-40 year old that just likes good ol' rock :-)
howdy. i just wish that christians wouldn't need to define their music as christian music. because they wish to do so, there's always a profound lack of subtlety.
being a christian myself, i really don't like any of the music you'd find in the christian music section. you might as well replace the word "baby" with "jesus" and you got yourself a hit. But eh, whatever.
as for bands like creed.....i'm just glad they broke up. weeeee!
(i believe it was stapp who had the religious slant to him...but the rest of the band didn't like it. )

I just find it interesting that none of you know who skillet is, then you start commenting on their old stuff?!
And about that, skillet's new album is a lot closer to their original album than their last couple albums have been. How is it that you call them a Creed clone when they've been around longer than Creed? Because their lyrics have a religious slant?? THEYRE A CHRISTIAN ROCK BAND!! Look for them at Walmart or Best Buy, you'll find them in the Christian section. And besides, they sound NOTHING like Creed. You would have to be deaf to say that. I've listened to bands like Kutless and Twelve Stones and I'll be the first one to admit they're Creed clones. Skillet is not.
The only thing I can think of is you guys are on an anti-creed rant and you didn't want skillet to throw you off while you're trying to prove your point - that Creed clones are taking over radio, which they are and that stuff gets real old and real annoying real fast. But skillet isn't a creed clone. I don't know one other person who thinks they sound anything like Creed.
