Aaliyah inquest to be held

The inquest into the death of Aaliyah is finally taking place in the Bahamas, over two years after her death in a plane crash. The inquest on Abaco Island, a few miles from where the twin-engine Cessna crashed, concluded that the singer was killed by severe burns and a blow to the head caused by the crash. Doctor Giovander Raju, who performed autopsies on a number of the victims, also revealed that Aaliyah "suffered generally from a weak heart". He concluded that there was very little chance of survival saying: "Aaliyah went into such a state of shock, even if she had survived the crash, recovery would have been near impossible."

Investigators have claimed that pilot Luis Morales was not licensed to fly the plane and that he had cocaine and alcohol in his system at the time of the crash. Aaliyah's family reached an undisclosed settlement with the company who owned the plane earlier this year after issuing a negligence lawsuit relating to the singer's death.
