J Lo is sued and not over Gigli!
Published November 17, 2003
J Lo's recreation of scenes from the movie Flashdance, in the video to track
'I'm Glad' earlier this year, has caused the real life welder-come-dancer that the film was based around to take legal action against both Lopez and the makers of the original film.
As previously reported, when J Lo first released the Flashdance inspired video some at Paramount, who made the movie, expressed concern that the video was made without their permission. For a brief moment it looked like one bit of Paramount would sue Lopez over the video while another bit were reportedly considering the singer to star in a remake of the film.
Either way Maureen Marder, whose life story the 1983 film was loosely based
on, wasn't impressed with J Lo's video. She is suing the singer for "illegally depicting her life". Her attorney, Robert Hefling, told reporters "Maureen is penniless, disabled with a spinal injury, and trying to raise a teenage daughter. Now her life story is on the screen again - and other people are profiting from it - with no acknowledgment of her rights, let alone fair compensation for her contribution."
The lawsuit is primarily aimed at Lopez and her label Epic, although in the same suit Marder is trying to get more money out of Paramount by forcing the studio to declare her co-author and co-owner of the movie and screenplay copyrights.

Er - I don't believe unintentional parody counts. :)
I never knew that Jennifer Beal's character was based on a real person. So there really was a woman who was a welder by day and dancer by night?
Forgive my naivete` but I don't see what the big deal with J-Lo is. She's in the news too often with stories which aren't all that newsworthy, IMHO.
And put me in the group that could care even less about her and Ben Affleck getting married -- or not getting married. What am I missing about this artist? What music of hers is worthy of almost Michael Jackson-like press coverage? (these are genuinue interest questions, not sarcasm, btw)
So can somebody succintly bring me up to speed on the J Lo media fascination?
She is a moderately appealing actress given the right role, she is a passable comedian, she is a middling pop-house recording artist like hundreds and hundreds of others, she has a lot of money and lives regally. Beyond that, she has an awful body for someone who has trainers for every part of it - the big butt, no chest look is dead, her face is flat too. That's all I've got, I don't get her either. I wish she would go back to the neighborhood and shut the fuck up.
No prob - Dawn forced me to watch one of those wretched E! channel profiles on her wide load. They actually had a scene from Cannes where you could hear beeping when she backed up - you'd think with her money she'd get it disconnected or something.

I have seen this video and I can't believe any judge in the land would consider this anything other than parody. MY drink came out of MY nose.
