Primus, currently on tour supporting their new CD/DVD release Animals Should Not Act Like People (read my review) has launched Primuslive in the past few days, offering up official recordings of their latest tour. Buyers must choose between lossy, 128kbps mp3 files, priced at $9.95, or non-lossy, FLAC compressed files, which are a measly $3 more ($12.95.) As a fan of live material, if you have decent bandwith, do yourself a favor and buy the non-lossy files . . . and then SAVE those FLAC files after you've decompressed the wavs. You paid for them, might as well keep them. Maybe someday Primuslive won't be selling these shows anymore, so you may want them to have to trade to get other shows (Primuslive does, however, request that these shows not be shared - I only postulate what the future may hold, since Pearl Jam does allow trading of their live shows after they are no longer available for purchase.) Prices include artwork as Adobe Acrobat files, so you'll need the Reader to print them off.
From the looks of things, these shows are a bargain - each one is three discs long, and every show is significantly different than any others. Primus fans will probably be begging Santa for some extra cash to purchase these things. Looking through the eight shows that are available, it's almost impossible to settle on just one - while each show features their classic Sailing The Seas Of Cheese in its entirety, the first set and the encore are different and cover every era of Primus. The only way I can choose just one is to pick the show from my city (which I didn't attend.) They're at a good price, so I can easily see going back later to grab another one.
(You'll like unproductivity.)
