I just want to take the time to say that this is D.J. from West Philly. Da Bottom. Holla back. Also, this Dawn story doesn't appeal to me. What the fuck is she talkin' about? Shouldn't she be more worried about what her son is going to be? Asshole.

One more, in honor of bloggers who care about stupid stats:

Well someone told me yesterday
You can't just throw your words away
Don't publicize? What - you don't care?
Your blog looks likes it's going nowhere

Time to suck up to other blogs
Sitemeter, Tracker, fill those logs
You need the links, so play a part
Or sit and nurse your broken heart

So lonely
So lonely
So lonely
So lonely

I've tried not to comment on Kim du Toit's post, but the posts here got me going.

I read the whole thing, much to my chagrin.

In my opinion, he doesn't at all understand what being a man is really about. He sort of gets some things: duty and honor are important. Doing the right thing even when it is hard. And so on.

But, despite all the ranting and raving and flag waving that goes on at his site, he completely misses some of the most important parts of being a man - some of which form the basis for our country: tolerance for those that disagree, equal rights under the law, and even freedom of expression, which he says he values so much.

Kim's concept of manhood, to me, is like a cartoon caricature of the real thing. His idea of manhood (for those of you old enough to remember) is Archie Bunker, or something close to that.

His only somewhat legitimate point is that men are often made fun of in popular media and culture. My response is who cares!? If you're so insecure that you can't take someone making fun, not of you, but of your gender (male or female), then you've got serious personality issues. No wonder he has so many guns.

dumb idiot me... saw TDavid's Police request and just typed in the first lyrics that came to mind. just realized i was supposed to tweak the lyrics to deal with the subject of blogging, so...

First to cry foul when the blogosphere is less than perfect
Your sensibilities are shaken by the blandest comment
You spend your blogging time engaging in a long whine
So foes semantically take turns to slap you in line

There's a little black spot on the sun today
It's the same old thing as yesterday
There's a black hat caught in a high tree top
There's a flag-pole rag and the wind won't stop

I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain

Eric, why put down gay people by insinuating that that Kim person is one of us? "Pansies"? Oh, that's awful.

Kicking the shit out of anyone is not manly; it is merely a violent activity.
Manly describes a man being whoever he honestly is, be he sensitive or (responsibly and respectfully) aggressive. Honesty should be encouraged.

Oh -- and calling anyone other than a cat a puss is horrible.

Don't have to like, use or own guns to be a man. Personally, I can't stand the damn things. I believe strongly in the Second Amendment though.

As for cutting them? All three of our boys aren't circumsized. My wife didn't like the thought of hurting them (many argue on the validity of this point) so I went along with what she felt most comfortable with. Pros and cons to both situations. I think that because mother's have a unique bond with the child that fathers should yield to what the mother feels strongly about in this particular decision. Just my 2 1/2 rusted pennies.

Welcome to Fete d'Kim, Dawn. Several bloggers, myself included, are wondering if there is something he didn't include in his overlong manifesto. Advice on rat eating, like one of his role models, perhaps.

Eric, the reason we have to let this foolishness abide is because, unlike the Taliban, we have the right to speak freely.

And, happily, we have the right to pillory him for it without mercy.

I discuss this Kim duToit foolishness at slightly greater length on my site, but here I will just say this:

Kim writes about Queer Eye For The Straight Guy (which according to him airs on the Homo Network): "what kind of girly-man would allow these simpering butt-bandits to change his life around?"

Very clever, Kim. But I ask you, by your own lights, what kind of girly-man would I be to allow my masculinity to be called into question by a Canadian gun nut with a woman's name?

Get a life, Queen bee. It's my world. You just live in it.
