Balzac And The Little Seamstress

'Balzac And The Little Seamstress' is a beautiful movie filmed with a breathtaking background of mountainous China. This French Chinese co produced movie (based on the book by the same name) gives an insight into what life must have been like during the Cultural Revolution in China.
Two teenage boys, Ma and Lou, are sent to be 're-educated' by peasants in an isolated rural mountain village in China after being found guilty of having middle school educations and being born into middle class families.
All in all its a coming of age film set in one of the most beautiful yet harsh environments on earth.
I could have done without the last 20 minutes of 'retrospective' (20 years later) scenes, but all in all am glad for the chance to see this film. If you get the chance to see it on the big screen it would be well worth it for the scenery. I'd give it 7 out of 10.

Mmm, I was disappointed in it. Don't think the film made as much of its setting, both geographical and temporal, as it could've done.
Always good to see more Australians at Blogcritics, of course :)
