Why do I have a problem with the word "philosophical" being used in relation to Slipknot?

Because one of their songs last year opened with the line, "I want to slit your throat and f*** the wound, I want to push my face in and feel the swoon"

Maybe that's why you have a problem with the word philisophical and Slipknot in the same sentence.

I really liked Slipknot's first album. It had a lot of good atmospheric type things going on and it was creepy. Their latest album was really typical death metal that ended up being very heavy for a "mainstream" band but nothing shocking when compared to the likes of Cannibal Corpse or Dying Fetus.

Any death metal fans how have a license to kill you. Iowa is basically a hardcore album with some metalcore influences.

Whatever. I am a deathmetal fan, and I hear a lot of those same kinds of things based on lyrical content. I mean death metal is all about being as violent and brutal with the lyrics as possible. Usually the hardcore bands don't get graphic bloody horror style. At least give me that much. I mean look at Acid Bath, Cannibal Corpse, etc.

most death metal bands are 10 times the musicians slipknot, incubus, korn, disturbed, all that shit that seems to be lumped together as metal. i'd love to see those 2 chumps from slipknot play "dead human collection" or see their 3 "percussionists" keep up with Napalm Deaths blastbeats or Nile's double kick. And slipknot is the furthest thing from hardcore this side of poison the well.

Ok I don't think that people need to be bashing another persons choice in music. I personally like slipknot, but I also like alot of other bands. Being from Iowa myself it's kinda nice to have something good come outta Iowa. Just because the lyrics don't please some people doesn't mean they need to bash it. I'm sure some people are like me and listen to it for the rythm of the music, or just the music itstelf, and not the lyrics. I agree with most people on this site, slipknot is a great band, but they can't be compared to death metal. Death metal has a different feeling about their music than Slipknot does. I'm awaiting this new album by Slipknot and see how much he says he changed.

FUCK YEH- ANY WAY, Since music has fallen off the edge of some fucking cliff- I needed (WE) needed something to be a cause of what makes everything spark, the excitment and then, Slipknot came into our lives.. It's the best is all I can say, rap is too- Death metal- Speed metal- Rock- what the fuck ever- as long as you all can understand why these basis exist then it's all good. Hate'em- Like'em, really it doesn't matter- we're just beings in the skin creating music- and a listener while we are beathing in our time.. What is wrong about any Philosophical realms involving Slipknot? Nothing.. I can easily point out a short phraze of a lyric from back in the day of Slipknot's second album- the part on Left behind- Wrapped in glass and soaked in lime- He might have expressed emotion or an illustration of the CREATIVE FORCE- but what does the glass represent? How is glass at use? How is it made? And Lime- what's happening to this person or the glass? What's giving this opportunity to be?.. All kinds of things that drag the INFINITE works among all lauguages.. For instants, If a new band with much higher details (yes- image still plagues us all, even the good ones) -And if Everyone in the entire world is attracted by it- may it be in Disgust or in "Perfected taste". Would you still follow? Face it, people, they fucking suck now. I used to be absolutly obsessed with Slipknot. They were my gods. Because I knew, yes KNEW, that they would never do anything but what they did best; KICKING MAJOR ASS. It was about that very ass kicking that got me into them. I would have gave my left arm to get my ass kicked by Corey or to even touch Joey's drum set, shit like that. But now, I don't give two shits about them because they became everything I hate....Stone Sour. I saw it coming and hoped it would not be the very day I heard Stone Sour and found out it was Corey singing. -Sigh- My world crumpled three weeks ago when I found Duality on Kazaa and DLed it to check it out. I was like; "FUCK YEA A THIRD SLIPKNOT ALBUM. KICK FUCKING ASS." Then I heard it and thought..."Fags". That was it...And by the way, Slipknot is not Death metal. Never was. Cannibal and SFU are Death metal. Slipknot was something different, not toneless volumless Deep Bass Vocals of Chris Barnes or George Fisher. Of course CC and SFU still kicks ass(cept for new SFU). Well, i bought their new album the day it came out and litstened to it on the way home, and i absolutely hated it, i thought i sucked,.......... but when i threw it in again, i started to like it a little more, then i listened to it again, and now i think its pretty damn good, its wierd that ill do that with cds sometimes, like on first listen through i wont like it then after listening to it some more ill start to like it. I guess i just wasnt ready for the sortive changes they made in their style (i had to get used to it) but now i think its an awsome cd for the most part and i cant wait to see them at ozzfest, so that was the biggest turn around ive ever had on not liking a cd to liking it, I give them props though for taking some chances, not being afraid to try some different directions, and being creative. The blister exists is f***in awsome, that song gets me pumped up, esp. the beginning of it, i threw that in last night and was f***in goin nuts in my basement (practincing my moshing for the pits to kick some ass) anyways, im jus in here seein what fans/critics had to say and spill my own opinions/thoughts out. stay (sic)

Slipknot is not a very good band as far as lyrics. However, I do enjoy listening to their drummer and guitar riffs even if it is metal. Although I would consider their image pretty gay. Think about all it is is poser emo crap. That is my reason for not liking the lyrics. Try listening to something older with more talent in lyrics and guitar. Slipknot is a great band...I'm sick of the labeling shit. Slipknot is metal imo as with KoRn, Deftones, System of a down, disturbed, godsmack, and mudvanye although they are also considered "nu-metal". Those bands are different because they don't rap like Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park and are much harder than them. As for Slipknot being death metal...maybe elements from them but you also have to consider that death metal is different from Slipknot so therefore no. and slipknot is not emo at all.
