She is thug but not a racist.

Turns out Girls Aloud's Cheryl Tweedy is guilty of an unpleasant piece of drunken violence, but she's not racist, which is good news for Polydor.

The ongoing court case over that fracas at a Guildford club finished yesterday with the jury siding with toilet attendant Sophie Amogbokpa who claimed Tweedy hit her after being told she would have to pay for the lollipops on offer. Tweedy claimed she acted in self defence after being attacked by Amogbokpa. But the jury did not find her guilty of a racially aggravated assault - which were the original charges. This was key for Tweedy because had she left court found guilty of racism her label Polydor would have been forced to drop her from the band. As it is it's business as usual.

In a statement issued through her solicitor Tweedy told reporters: "I'm pleased that the trial is over and thankful that the jury have accepted that this incident had nothing to do with race. I'm not a racist, and anyone who knows me knows I would not say anything racist. I'm stunned and disappointed by the conviction for assault. I would like to thank my family, friends and our fans for their support over this difficult year."
