Heading For The Highlands

This weekend, 9/26 to 9/28, I'll be attending my first Celtic festival in Bethlehem PA. Let me tell you folks, I'm effing excited. In fact, I'm practically horny!

It was about 5 years ago that I first got into my Irish heritage. My mother's family is of the name Logue. Our Logues came to America in the late 1800s and settled in MD. My grandfather was the first of the Logues born here in the USofA in 1915.

Unfortunately both of his parents died when he was very young, and he was raised by aunts and uncles who had already at that time been in the country for a while (and, unfortunately, already Americanized). I often wondered, had my great-grandparents not died, if my grandfather would have been raised in a rich Irish home passing that sense of heritage down to my mother and her sisters. Either way, I am determined to break the trend and rediscover my roots, hopefully passing them on to my children, and them to their children. I find my Celtic background romantic and mystifying (much more so than my father's German background).

Like I said, I have yet to experience a Celtic festival. I had always heard they were more of a novelty, much like a Ren Fair (or...is it Faire?). However, Bethlehem's is known for being very authentic. I look forward to the Highland games, live music, and of course the black and tans! If you're in the area and want to experience something grand, come check it out. Most of the events are free, and it's going to be a rockin weekend. While I'm there, I hope to also pick up a birthday present for me dear old muthar as well.

For more info, check out The Celtic Fest

Next week I'll post a review of the weekend.

Glad your catching on to your Celtic roots. Germans were Celts too.

Caucasian means originating from the Caucasian mountains. That's where Celtic history began; that same time the history of the lost tribes of Israel ended.

Do a Google search on Celtic Israel or British Israel if you desire to learn more.

Roots of whatever nationality or heritage are always interesting and edifying - have fun!

Yeah I did know Germans are Celts. I guess it's hard for me to see it as the same culture because German culture now seems so different than Irish culture. That and most of my dad's side now is PA Dutch haha.
