Purple people eater finally eats Sheb Wooley
Published September 18, 2003
The infamous flying purple people eater has finally eaten Shelby "Sheb" Wooley, who passed on September 17 at age 82. Official government approved news reports will be suspiciously uniform in listing the cause of death as leukemia.
Just know that the government doesn't want to cause a panic, so they're keeping a lid on the real cause of death. Let those who have ears to hear listen. We know "It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple people eater." The truth is out there.
Wooley's name was known publicly mostly for that one multi-million selling 1958 novelty record, but he had much more of a career as a singer and character actor. He just wasn't a "star" personality.
Among other things, he played in the Rawhide series that launched Clint Eastwood's career. He also appeared in The Outlaw Josey Wales.
He also played a killer in High Noon. He also appeared in Giant and Hoosiers.
Cool bonus point of which even I was previously unaware: He wrote the theme song for Hee Haw. That's a pretty high prestige resume item in these parts.
So all I'm saying is that this is the season for purple people eaters, so be careful out there.
