Would You Drink Something Called "PimpJuice?"

I'd be very hesitant to touch the stuff.

Hip-hop artist Nelly is the head of the company that markets the new energy drink that BevNet.com's reviewers say tastes better than the more mediciney-tasting stuff out there.

Where do we even begin? Created by a company where hip-hop star Nelly is the chairman, Pimp Juice uses one of the more unique energy drink formulations that we've tested. Made with apple juice, Pimp Juice is a non-carbonated energy drink that has a bright green color and a very sweet sour apple flavor. The taste tested pretty well in our test panels, mainly because of the lack of a medicinal flavor. As for the can, people seem to either love it or hate it — in some cases finding the word "pimp" to be somewhat offensive. Regardless, the name is something that will both help and hurt the sales of this product. If nothing else, it's very original. Overall, we like the flavor of this product and the fact that they are trying something different.

Green? Feh. I've sampled more vile-looking brews, but I've got an inherent problem with something that calls itself "PimpJuice." There's enough of a problem with music filled with mysogynistic lyrics that glorify calling women bitches and whores and other glorify treating them as such without products starting to show up that support that entire sub-culture.

Apparently, I'm not the only one. According to an article on MTV.com, a loosely-organized boycott of the drink and any outlet that sells the drink is in the early stages.

Chicago Tribune-syndicated columnist Clarence Page is also dismayed by the mindset that would give rise to the drink. Supposedly, it (the term "pimp juice") is an "innocent" term, according to those close to that culture. As far as I'm concerned, they can keep that term away from my innocent ears, and PimpJuice away from my innocent palate.

Thanks Michael, welcome back! I'm pretty sure I don't want any kind of juice from a pimp.

The term pimp is disgusting and used only by the very ignorant. Yes I am black and from 'that culture' and personally myself and all of those I know abhor the exploitation of women for whatever reason. These lowlifes like Nelly and Jay Z who find it amusing to present themselves as representatives of black culture only show how disjointed the black community is. There is great disparity between those from the civil rights movement and the hip hop generation, the thugs and the buppies. The disparity is growing larger everyday and leading to more and more complex problems of complexity within the black community. As far as I am concerned Nelly doesnt represent black culture in any way.

Not thirsty for any of these energy drinks, including Red Bull. Just give me nice bottled or chilled water and I'll be happy. I'll give them points for choosing a controversial name for promotional purposes, though. This one likely will backfire and nobody will have ever heard of this juice in a few years.

Pimpjuice ia awesome! There is nothing wrong with this name. Thats just what it is a name I think ppl in the world are to touchy and uptight about everything and they need to drink a can of pimpjuice and let the good times roll!

Do we want our pimps more energetic?

Don't have much to do?

If you don't like it, don't buy it! Anyone can understand that. It's a good thing that someone is trying something new, something different.

Keep it up Nelly and all the others that doesn't fit into the mainstream population!

No protein, according to their website. That's a relief. PimpJuice is not at all what I thought it was.

"Do we want our pimps more energetic?" Hahaha. The best line so far.

90% of the people who buy this will be geeky white suburban males.

No Cadillacs, no perms.

Can't believe about the pimpjuice. I love Nelly but I can't believe he's promoting that stuff. I watched the new video of Flap Your Wings and really liked the video and the song. Did anyone hear that his car was stolen from the video and in a car chase in LA? Seems pretty crazy but who would steal the car on purpose knowing it was Nelly's? I don't think it was Nelly robbing the bank -- anyone heard about that one? Wondering if it's true or just some hoax. Seems like Nelly wouldn't be one to mess anyway, it's late to signing off for now.
