You know this is a pretty good list but to not have Hermon Lee in it is a crime. TO put out the amount of strums for minutes at a time as he does is amazing. The fact that he plays with the way he does should put him at least at 30!....just for skill. Now Dragon force is not the most popular band in the world....but popularity are not every thing....if you want to hear the best music every made...go to myspace or what ever... look up through the fire and flames...or dragon force. Don't ke lists like this through a popularity contest.

Slix, you brought much to light when you stated that you felt the facts would be on your side. You really don't know one way or the other. All you have to work from is misguided speculation. You certainly don't recognize when someone is speaking in terms of technical facts and not opinion. Don'tworry, I'm sure you can find some pseudo-music teacher who makes a killing teaching metal heads self-esteem without basis in fact.

this is bullshit. fuck this sucks. where are the guitarists from Iron Maiden, where's Steve Vai, Michael Romeo, John Petrucci, Jeff Hanneman, Paul Gilbert etc.
This is absurd. Fuckin' Ramone???? I like the Ramones I find them to be a cool bend, but as far as the guitar skill goes, he ain't got shit. And neither does Kurt Cobain.

I find it ironic that there are those who suggest that my veiws are intended only to annoy others. Is that not the sole reason for the existance of Metal as well as rap in the first place. Please do not suggest that it has something to do with musical value. If my comments have bothered metal fans you now know the effect your music? has upon the unfortunate others within earshot of the mindless rantings of metal. You should be as plesed with yourselfs. As far as proof of my comments I can only suggest a course in music theory as well as guitar technique. If you still don't get it after that then I don't have much hope for you.

Jimi Hendrix was a great guitarest. One of the best. But number 1? Jimi's a little over rated. But he should deffinetly be top ten

Van Halen way down there!? He shold be top ten!
No one can do the stuff that he does on the guitar like him man.

Tommi Lommie was down in the eighties? And Randy Roads too!? No way. TOp 30 at least.

And Angus Young at 96!? unbelevible! Buy Ac/Dc's live at Donighton concert, and watch all of the Jailbreak song. You'll see what I mean.

But the way, ted Nugent should be somewhere on the list.

And how about Kurt Cobain? I like Cobain too, but 12? He probably shouldn't be on this list.

kirk hammet is good, only reason people dont think he is good is because they see hhim as a metal player, hes not a metal player, he has rhythm, makes real songs, doenst just play fast, theres a beat, perfect fluxuation of pitches to change it up from...going super fast on the high notes for like 4 minutes. im not even a huge metallica fan, but he is definetly good guitarist, not metalist guitarist?, or somthing like that if u know what i mean

No Marty Friedman, Slash, Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteem, or Buckethead? I really think this is a list of all the classic rock guitarists that these noobs know and they just decided to throw them in random order.

No matter how good anyone on this list may, or may not be, I feel pretty confident in saying that there literally has to be a million people out there who are not famous who are as good or better. Saying that anyone is the world's best guitarist is about as silly as saying that Miss Universe is the world's most beautiful women. Personally I think most of the guys on this list aren't very good, but I don't think Angelina Jolie or J-Lo are good looking either. It's more about marketing then talent. If the media repeats a message enough times, alot of gullible people will believe it, no matter how ridiculous the message. Slash, Kirk Hammet, you guys have to be kidding. Hype, hype and more hype. Their popularity proves my point. Metal bites.

So where is Oscar Lopez, Peter White, and Armik?

I'm glad to see people screaming because of Charly Byrd and Paco De Lucia's abscence, in addition to John McLaughin's low showing.

As a teenager I would have put Steve Howe and Greg Lake at the top.

I don't think many of you people on this site understand the sheer brilliance of Mr. John Frusciante. The man is a genius the things he did on Blood Sugar were amazing. Not to mention how he absolutely controls that guitar at concerts. Maybe his more melodic stuff has turned you off from him but if you can ever see him in concert or get some of his early RHCP works or his solo stuff you will understand what he is capable of. I dont know about cobaine being 15 or whatever he is that seems a little high even though his songwriting was amazing. But you cant really argue with this list very much because not many people here can outplay any of these guys.
