IN MEMORIAM

Postscript: One measure of a person is the devotion of friends. David's are pulling together to continue raising funds for the Rwanda Project. One of his many devoted friends, Joanne McKinney, writes: "I'm here at David's house sitting at his laptop to make sure that everything moves forward."
Jenifer Howard writes: "It important to note that David funded the [entire] project himself. He paid all of the people who worked on it, and every penny raised for the children has gone directly to the children. There is a need to keep the momentum going and encourage people to keep donating to help give these amazing children a hope for a prosperous future."
Another friend, Timothy McKinney, notes that when the 10th anniversary of the Rwanda genocide of 1994 is officially commemorated, "David's project" may be part of it. The Web site "is being considered for content," Timothy writes. "We also see it as a great way to help his young daughters --[Cat, 7, and Sailor, 4] --stay connected to a father who was such an inspiration to everyone he met."
In the meantime, David's friends, his wife, Cricket, and their family are planning a memorial service for him. It will be held outdoors in Old Greenwich, Conn. at the Lucas Point Beach, Sunday, at 2 p.m.. (People coming from far away and needing hotel rooms should try the Hyatt in Old Greenwich,
1800 E. Putnam Ave., 203 637-1234, rate is $119 a night, 24-hr. cancellation.) The reception that follows the service will be at the Jiranek house, 10 Northway, Old Greenwich at 3:30 p.m. and everyone is encouraged to
come.
Out-of-towners can check the Hyatt for a map of the area and directions to the
service. Train travelers should take the Metro North commuter train (New Haven line) from Grand Central Station to the Old Greenwich station. There will be a shuttle service there to take you to the service (check the Metro North schedule for departure times).
Driving instructions: Take Exit 5 off I-95 and take a R onto E. Putnam Rd. Go
to the light and take a right on to Sound Beach Road. Follow that through the town of Old Greenwich until it ends. Take a onto Shore Rd and follow it. Police will direct traffic and parking from there.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Rwanda Project. Visit the
website (www.rwandaproject.org) for contribution information. There will also be a donation box at the Jiranek house. Checks can be made out to "Through the Eyes of Children."
