Manson too much for Darien

Ozzy, Korn, Disturbed and Chevelle are OK - Marilyn Manson is just too
sinister though. That's the opinion of the Six Flags Darien Lake amusement
park in New York State which is hosting an Ozzfest date. They dictated that
Manson, though on the Ozzfest bill, will not be allowed to perform at their
venue. Manson told a local paper: "Marilyn Manson is simply too dangerous
for Darien Lake."

I always get a kick out of reactions like this to MM. The band is such a joke, so over the top, so definitely Not Scary. How does anyone take this seriously? I remember when their first album came out - the whole band's schtick was just that - a schtick, campy Alice Cooper type horror humor. And like Cooper, the band became the man - early interviews with them had MM as his "real" self, no makeup, no fake-Bowie weird eye, and it was clear that this was all a put on. But all the wannabe Goth-kiddies bought into this crap and the band sold into it as well. It's just a shame the humor didn't remain, but MM, the man, has gotten so full of himself that he believes his own hype now. Sad . . . and boring . . .
