Farnham for Queen?
Published August 07, 2003
Totalnews is reporting:
The name of John Farnham is the latest to be linked with replacing the late, great Freddie Mercury as the singer with Queen. The Aussie has just recorded a new version of 'We Will Rock You' with Queen duo Brian May (guitar) and Roger Taylor (drums); this is to be the anthem for the upcoming Rugby Union World Cup. Now it's being claimed discussions are well advanced on Farnham working further with Queen. In the past, both Robbie Williams and George Michael have been linked with trying to fill Mercury's huge shoes.
Of course, having an Aussie sing for Queen might just be too much for some to bear. At least, the guy has a range closer to Freddie's.

I agree that John Farnham is a very good singer, but a comparison with Mercury is a bit hard. Besides, Mercury was a brilliant writer of music. Admittedly I'm a very mediocre muso, but some of his stuff is just brilliant to my mind.
Lol. Johnny Farnham for Queen.
Geez. What's the bloody world coming to? Undoubtedly he IS a very good singer, but as Ian points out above, comparing John to Freddy is like comparing apples and oranges.
They're both fruit, but that's where it ends ...
Besides, I've just noticed this is an old thread and that the song was recorded for the RWC, which is long gone and sadly, Oz got bundled out in the quarters in the last one in France.
But I suspect the story here is actually pointing to a song recorded for the PREVIOUS world cup, in Australia.
