Star Warzzzz

The much anticipated Star Wars Galaxies MMORPG has been reviewed by TechTV's X-Play. Well, ok, it hasn't been reviewed, more like eviscerated by blaster. As cynics would expect with any game so over-hyped, it really does not cut the mustard.

It is pretty hard to believe, but the developers managed to make Star Wars boring. They have yet again made a MMORPG where it is necessary to walk long distances to get anywhere. Do these people actually think most gamers want to spend literally hours of their lives going from place to place? You would think it logical to have some sort of transportation available? At least in Shadowbane there is a "summoner" class that can aid in getting around. Of course, finding a summon most of the time is a total pain in the arse, but at least they exist.

Word of mouth online echoes the sentiments of X-Play. To add to the fun there are stability and server issues too. There are, as with Shadowbane, quite a few people feelling a bit daft for buying the game upon release. Will early adopters, of which I am one, ever learn?

So if you are a Mac user or a PC user with a "real life", don't fret about SWG. You ain't missing much mate.

We picked this up a couple weeks ago. It has a nifty character creation setup but it's a lot like -- maybe too much like -- Anarchy Online, which wasn't a very good MMORPG either. I guess folks (like me) were expecting something revolutionary. I totally with blaster and you on this one. Maybe this game just takes time to grow on people. I'm not there after 2 weeks of it, anyway.
