oh ya, gotta get this one.

it reminds me of the time an office-mate was interested in Beefheart (can't remember why...maybe he saw my copy of Trout Mask Replica on my desk)....so that's what i loaned him.

the next morning the cd was sitting on my chair with a note from him:

"This Is Not Music"

heh....

"A common response to this album (from what I've been told) is initial hatred. It has a very cacophonous sound, but after listening to it for a while, it sort of creeps up on you, and you find yourself loving it. It does take some determined listening, though. " --http://www.beefheart.com

Trout Mask Replica is the most famously useful record to put on when it's late and you've got a houseful of party guests that you need to get rid of.

And anyone NOT run off by the harsh, seemingly but not really cacophanous sound of this classic album will likely be freaky enough to be WORTH partying all night with.

Yes! If the gay bishop didn't offer enough proof, here it is: There IS a god! Trout Mask Replica and Beefheart made college for me. Oh, I can not wait to tell Spousal Unit! No -- instead, there will be a challenging musical surprise awaiting the spouse and the son when they return from their trip to grandma's. David's 7 -- that's not too young, is it?

Mike Giles plays on that Schizoid Band CD, but he's left the band (again?) and the drums are now played by fellow Crim alum Ian Wallace. They're working on new material now.

Also, some ex-Magic Band members put out two hard to find albums as Mallard in the mid-70's.

Too bad, since I thought the best thing about the CD was Giles' drumming on "Cat Food".

And, John (aka Drumbo) French plays drums on the Magic Band CD, but he's the singer/harmonica player when they appear live, so the drums are manned by another ex-Beefheart drummer, Robert (aka ?) Williams.
