Some People Just Suck - Record Collection Stolen
Published July 29, 2003
How much actual scratch could a collection of Chambers Brothers albums and singles be worth to a thief? How much is it worth to the Chambers family? Um, priceless. Some people just suck - check this out:
- I am truly heartbroken! My complete collection of my husband's (Lester Chambers of the Chambers Brothers) albums and 45's have been stolen from my home in Tarzana, California !!
This collection has taken me 25 years to collect and I had intended to pass them on to our 2 sons. Years before Ebay, I scoured record stores and swap meets to put this collection together. There were over 60 albums and over 100 45's stolen. Many were Chambers Brothers' Columbia albums released by Columbia under their many foreign labels and would be needed as proof of their non-payment of years of foreign royalties.
These Columbia albums were released under Direction Records out of England, First Records out of Korea, etc. One of their 45's was released in Germany with an abstract orange coloring. Many of their 45's had photo sleeve coverings all in perfect condition. I had their complete recordings from their early years with Vault Records and one of their first albums recorded with Barbara Dane on the Folkways label.
I would like to put the word out to all record stores (especially in So. California), collectors, Ebay shoppers, etc in order to try and recover these extremely sentimental albums.
Sincerely,
Lola Chambers
Let's be vigilant and try to help them out.

Once upon a time, the Chambers Bros had their instruments stolen and word got around. David Lindley happened to be shopping for instruments in a pawn shop, and he recognized one of their guitars (as he used to share stages with the Chambers). So he bought it and gave it back.
So maybe there can be a better ending to this, too, if as suggested we're all vigilant and try to help them out. They of all people don't deserve this kind of grief.
Best wishes,
Barbara Flaska
IS there any update on this ?
I believe that there were quite a few Chambers Brothers albums and 45's stolen.
Were there any memorabilia articles taken too ?
This is a very nasty thing !

What is wrong with the world?
Years ago, I had a bunch of collector's edition Al Stewart records stolen from me. Devastation ensued. In the intervening 21 years, I have been able to replace some of the stolen items, but still. And I'm not even the artist. Best wishes and sympathies to the Chambers family. Here's hoping good luck will strike and their albums will be recovered and returned.
I thought some SOB stole my Gehenna "Murder Music" CD. Turns out it was under my front car seat. But still, I would have been plenty mad and ready to throwdown if it had happened!
All thieves irritate me, but thieves like these lowlife(s) really blow. When they realized those records weren't worth that much $$ for supporting their meth or crank habit they probably were dumpster-bound in a hurry.
Natalie, I have several Al Steward albums. I don't know what you're looking for, but I don't listen to them, and would gladly send you what you want free of charge. Email me and I'll let you know what I have. I may not be able to help...but who knows!
Oh yeah, and this one time, my buddy gave this heroin addict dude that was crashing in the apartment next door (inhabited by a Satanist, the Satanist's mom, and the Satanist's little sister) some food. As thanks, the smackhead told my friend he worked at this place where they gold coated CD's to enhance their sound or durability or something like that, and if my buddy would give him some of his CD's, the junkie would have them coated for him for free. So, my buddy gives the guy like 20 of his favorite CD's to be gold coated, or enhanced, or whatever the eff!!!! So, of course, the druggie dissapears. My friend calls me up to tell me the story, and I'm like, "Dude, why would you do something like that?" See, he's not very tech savvy, but even he shouldn't have fallen for that! So anyways, the Satanist, the Satanist's mom, and Satanist's lil' sis are stone cold silent, like they haven't seen the guy and all that. I think my buddy did end up seeing that dude later on down the road, and he didn't even attack him or anything, cuz he's like a peaceful guy on the outside (inside, he's quite the nihilist, a bit of hater, and a real downer some time!) I would have been like "Dude, I am now going to withdraw what you owe me in blood, and whatever other bodily fluids I can extricate from your body with this here blackjack!"-Special note to Johnny Law-I don't carry the blackjack under my front seat anymore. Or the pint of Jim Beam. Honest. And I took the throwing stars out of the glove box, too.
Yes, we have gone far too long without the ineffable pleasure of Bricky's stream of consciousness.
What's the first rule of life in the real world? Never trust a fucking junkie. My brother had a very good friend, weak but kind, fall to various drugs, including heroin, and when my brother agreed to put him up for a time, he stole, lied and pulled every pissant, scummy, worthless trick in the book. Very sad, had to write him off. No matter how much we care, some people cannot be saved and they will only drag you down. That is a very difficult, wrenching lesson to learn. You can love them from afar but keep them the hell away fronm your CDs.
The tire iron under your seat is perfectly legal, even if your car doesn't come with a tire iron.

That sucks all right. I doubt the sort of people who break into houses to steal people's records are usually conoisseurs, though, or that they care how much they get for their efforts as long as it's enough to cover the cost of their next hit. As you rightly say, the personal and sentimental value of a collection you've built up over years far outweighs whatever its actual monetary value may be anyway.
