Flash Mobs

This sounds rather neat and interesting.

Using mass e-mailing, the organisers bring together what their invitations describe as "inexplicable mobs" — large crowds that materialise in public places and suddenly dissipate 10 minutes later.

Hey, whoever, email me if there's ever another one in the Bay Area of CA.

People with too much free time on their hands.

add drinks and music and you have something even better: a "party"

#3 — July 29, 2003 @ 18:09PM — visualsimplicity [URL]

hah, but a party would be normal. this is weird.

#4 — July 29, 2003 @ 18:39PM — Eric Olsen

it wouldn't be normal with "inexplicable mobs"

Weird ist THE word... These people meet up, make pictures, don't talk to each other, go home, post the pics on their sites and that's it. That's not meeting new people (what I like about the internet), but being in the same place by incident.

having now read the actual story, this is bizarre and cool - I like the performance art aspect - there should be a party afterward

I don't even have to be a part of it. I'd be perfectly content to be able to just witness this for myself. And yeah, that's the word for it, performance art, I just couldn't pinpoint it.

"In Detroit, a group of gays and lesbians organise the "Detroit Guerrilla Queer Bar," which targets a local straight restaurant or bar for "swarming" on a designated night.

And in Boston, Reggie Cummings, a black software developer, coordinates "friendly takeovers" by crowds of black yuppies of downtown bars with a traditionally white clientele. "

yes please!!
