Antestor- The Defeat of Satan
Published July 02, 2003
The irony is that "The Return of the Black Death" was recorded after their other releases. And "The Defeat of Satan" was recorded before "Martyrium".
"What happened?" you ask? Well, before Antestor recorded and released "TRotBD" they were with another label and recorded "Martyrium". However, that label never released it. So after "TRotBD" became a hit, another label decided to release "Martyrium". Now, a few years later, they have dug into the vaults and pulled out this, "The Defeat of Satan". This is the first two demos that the band recorded. And they sound good.
Very good.
If you are an extreme metal fan, do what you can to get your hands on this. The release is limited to 999 copies (each numbered) and, despite the low number of black metal fans, will become scarce soon enough.
The cd is produced very well. It's a lot better than the flat sounding "TRotBD". And while "Martyrium" had more production, it wasn't nessisarily better sounding.
The guitars buzz and flail through each song, while keyboards (a standard must-have for black metal now-a-days) haunt in the background. The vocals tend to take a doom metal approach as a low growl, however, other shrieks and screams occour.
The artwork is top-notch, as with all of their releases. The cover is black and white with a picture of a skeleton wrapped in black cloth, outstreching it's hand. The band name is in readable print (but enough creative loops for it to qualify in the genre).
If you are already an Antestor fan, you know you won't go wrong with this disc. If you are into extreme metal, try it and see what you think. If you're a Satanist, feel free to ignore them. But for crying out loud stop it with this whole death threat thing.
peace.

hey
I'm orthodox christian, and i'm listening to black metal since 1999, i heared about this band in 2003 and from this year i want to get this bands CD, or only one track in mp3 to hear what music they play. im very interested for this band and cant find their album or tracks to download 2 years. please help me to get it..
BLACK METAL SHALL BE DEDICATED TO THE DEVIL. DEMONS SPEAK THROUGH US AND SPREAD THE PLAGUE IN AUDIAL FORM. Black Metal is HIS TOOL.
Black Metal may be used for Christianity pusposes as well... "Thou hast hidden the Truth in darkness" (according to Psalm 51 - and Antestor's "Mercy Lord"). The Lord may use any tool on earth to spread the Gospel. Praise the LIVING KING!!!
I'm curious about this band, but I too have troubles finding their music. I mostly listen to the satanic black metal, although I do not share their vision.
By the way I couldn't resist the pleasure of mentioning that most satanic don't even worship satan, it's just an expression of hatred for religion as they feel religion is couse for most war and sorrow in the world.(in some degree they are right, alot of wars are fought over religion) Mayhem: "it's about strengtening the individual instead of the collective, not about worshipping some higher being" Although many bands (mayhem included) have and want to have an evil immage, created by the use of inverted crosses (though ultimatly this is a christian symbol) and desecrating immages of Christ, or by openly spreading nazi propaganda (burzum, graveland, ...)
This contradiction with this band Antestor, who is also claiming to make black metal, made me curious. Though black metal mostly isn't about worshipping satan, it IS about depravity, anger, hate, agression and general disgust for of the established society and I can't immagine how a christian band can ignore all this agression that is black metal and still actualy BE black metal... I haven't heard anything yet, but my guess it's more death and doom metal than black metal, becouse bands in these genres are more about sadness and hope for a better world.
if u cant find there music, try downloading a program called soulseek
With "The Forsaken" Antestor has clearly shown its ability to kick the spiritual crap out of Black metal, with the darkest and heaviest Black metal. I'm a firm believer in Christ and I've heard both satanic and christian black metal. Let me know if you can find a difference, because if there is, I'd like to hear it. The music is the same, the lyrics differ. May Antestor and other Christian metal bands burn a light through the darkness of satanic music so that may see the glory of God.
I've been a christian for a while, I'm pretty calloused(sp) to the satanism and stuff in most black metal, but it is still refreshing to find christian black metal. I've just recently discovered good christian metal, for a while I wasn't convinced it was out there. There really is no difference between christian and secular metal, and the fact is, christians can and do have plenty of reason to be angry and aggressive, just as much as anyone else anyway.
To all people looking to download Antestor's stuff... it probably wouldn't be that easy. Try downloading the free samples at www.fear-dark.com and then SUPPORT THE BAND by buying their albums...
If you enjoy Antestor, check out these other bands:
Alethian (technical death/black)
Extol (1st 2 records, progressive/technical death/black, 3rd album technical extreme thrash)
Believer (highly technical thrash)
Sympathy (super heavy death metal)
Crimson Thorn (super heavy death metal)
Frost Like Ashes (unblack metal)
Becoming the Archetype (modern technical death metal)
Crimson Moonlight (unblack metal)
Drottnar (death/unblack)
Immortal Souls (unblack)
Horde (old-school unblack)
The Aletheian album is definitely worth atleast one run through... A solid release.
I can't say the same for B.T.A., it's too Modern Hardcore/Metal for me.
I would definitely suggest any of the Believer albums if you wanna hear how it was perfected before the genre got popular.
But, then you can get caught up in so many bands especially when you focus on the technical fusion type stuff, like:
Gorod
Spiritual Architect
Quo Vadis
Pestilence
Atheist
Death
Cynic
Neuraxis
Illogicist
Gory Blister
Opeth
aletheian is pretty sweet. though my opinion may be kind of biased since they're local boys.
I'm not a Christian. I like the hatred, satanic lyrics Black Metal offers. But Antestor is very nice. i play keyboard, Sygmoon is pretty sweet. and Hellhammer did session drums and he aint a Christian. their lyrics arent that obvious anymore to point out their "Christian-ness" if you will. i like them. horns up to them regardless
Not a big fan of either metal or christian music, but I love the fact that Antestor was one of the first to merge them together into perhaps one of the most seemingly contradictory music created. I love it, even if appreciated mainly in a ironic sense.
On another note:
Although many would like to post that black metal isn't about satanism, there sure is a bit of an obsession with the occult, satan, etc. etc., which I find quite boring, as boring as christian music, and just as unoriginal, but that's just my opinion...
Nothing is darker to me than "christianity" as we know it today. Catholics, protestents, all followers of god... they are dark plague. Lucifer controls the realm of repentance. Lucifer is just and righteous. When all the churches of normandy have been burned to the ground... the new empire will rise and cleanse this earth... in the hell that is just... in the hell thats constructed to repent within, for sins that catholics hide behind a shield from instead of dealing with.
Black metal is made for money... but our interpretations and will serve HIM. For me... its prayer for salvation, by him granting me the strength to endure repentance for living. Killing of others... is only in service to him. To lend a humble hand in the judgement of this world even though we are not worthy.
I write this in service. Understand, accept, repent. Conquer cowardice.
Attention, black metal fans: the devil is NOT the opposite of God, he's the opposite of Michael the Archangel. The devil was originally the angelic choir leader, meaning he was and is part of God's creation, and as such he is subject to God and exists to spread evil only as long as God allows him to. There is no contest - God has been, is, and will be, the winner.
God is the winner; the devil is the loser. God is omnipotent and omniscient; the devil can not be. God can create; the devil can only distort what already exists. God is the source of everything that is good and perfect; the devil is not.
When you listen to black metal, remember that the devil is not called "the father of lies" for nothing. You cannot trust him; he won't take care of you.
I just have to clarify that Vik_FRA_Meg comments that in Psalm 51 that the truth is hidden in darkness is not true I went and read it and did not saying anthing of the sort! he might be reading one those newage versions of the Bible or somthing and the comment by V looks dark and disturbing as well even has the nerve to slip in a phrase of praise for lucifer,Vik_FRA_Meg and V Need to Truly Repent for they have caused offense to The Lord Above with their careless comments!

Martyrium, Despair, and The Defeat Of Satan seem to have a death/doom sound rather than the "sorrow metal" of The Return Of The Black Death.
