Breaking Daddy's Heart

A. is almost 10 months old now. One of my favorite things on the entire planet is to watch her dance, which mainly consists of her rocking back and forth while on all fours. She is unbelievably precious when dancing.

One of her first and favorite songs to dance to was the Elephant March song from The Jungle Book.

Last night she and I have some time to kill so I fire up the stereo and play her song.

Nothing.

Not even so much as a glance back at the speakers.

And, while watching her play with her toys, oblivious to the song and me, a small part of my heart sheared off and fell into the well of memory that I am learning all parents carry with them.

Bye, bye tiny dancer.

Well, that's just one time. She was doubtless distracted by toys, and will likely pick up her routine next time the song comes up. Or if she's tired of that one, it'll be another song- perhaps "The Bare Necessities." I'm sure she's only but begun to dance.

Thanks Al, I can only hope so . . . just not professionally :)
