Chapter Two by Neil Simon
Published July 01, 2003
One man in his 40s has lost his wife to cancer. Another woman in her 30s has at last sadly divorced her loser husband. Their friends each push them into getting back on the horse, to date other people. Neither of them are anxious to attempt to integrate their lives with another person just then.
Until by accident they are thrust together and find themselves enchanted.
But this is Neil Simon; he's not going to be that pat. There is more to the story, because there is more to each of these people than simply a desire to pair-bond.
Relationships are tough. And Simon has it right as he points out in this drama how a relationship to yourself can be almost the toughest of all. Especially as we get older and begin to understand just how strange we really are deep down.
