howard deanThe results of the MoveOn primary are in. Howard Dean won with roughly 44% of the vote, Dennis Kucinich 24%, and Kerry 16%. Bringing up the rear were Joe Lieberman (2%) just ahead of Al Sharpton (.5%).

Factoids:

  • 317,639 votes were cast in the "primary," more than the 2000 New Hampshire Democratic presidential primary, the Iowa and South Carolina Democratic presidential caucuses, combined

  • 54,370 voters pledged to volunteer for their preferred Democratic contender

  • 49,132 voters pledged to contribute money to their candidate, for a total estimated at more than $1.75 million
  • Nurse Ratched says:

What's even better, as far as I'm concerned, is that when asked which candidates they would enthusiastically support if they won the Democratic nomination, Lieberman and Sharpton had the lowest numbers, at 42.01% and 35.48% respectively, but every other candidate would be supported by 50% or better (if you round up Bob Graham's 49.7%). Dean would have the support of 86.02% of respondents. This is very good news for the field, as it indicates a pretty high interest in getting the current administration out of office, avoiding both the most Bush-Lite of the candidates (Lieberman) and the least electable (Sharpton).

Lieberman and Sharpton, sittin' in a tree, l-o-o-z-i-n-g.
