I love her. I'll buy. i've read a couple fo turgid reviews that it doesn't seem to be much of a progression. Little do they know.

Pitchfork gave it a 0!! I am not a large Phair fan, but I think the press involved with this release is facsinating, she is alternately skewered or loved it seems..

Liz Phair merits a 6 just by her very existence. And then, well I haven't listened to the CD.

Yikes. I've dl'd most of the tracks and don't plan to buy it.

It ain't horrible. It's (sometimes) catchy, slick, purposefully low-stakes. It sounds pretty much like Avril Lavigne's album. Except Avril Lavigne is an 18-year-old girl making music for 12-year-old girls. Liz Phair is...not.

I don't think anyone will listen to Exile in Guyville and then this and say, "Wow, what a progression." More like, wtf?

I'm really glad the Apple Store didn't have this. I might have purchased it and had my first Apple Store buyer's remorse.

Temple--I agree that Liz Phair deserves lots of points just for being Liz Phair. But I think she may not be Liz Phair anymore.

I thought the TIME article about this album sort of said it all: instead of trying really hard to take another step as the mysterious-sexy Liz Phair, she wanted to take a stab at the guilty-pleasure-I-hope-nobody-hears-me-sing-this-song Liz Phair. I think she succeeded. These songs bring me back to overdramatic teenage moments and I like it. Perfect for July.

I'm not sure when everyone decided that pop music had to be art (the Beatles?), but you've got to admit, when a commercially savvy act gets it right, it's a hell of a lot more fun than the typical posturing/brooding you do in the record store, or out driving around. Take it for what it is, the sunny disposable summer CD of the year.

I agree whole heartedly with Jeff. While this album is definetely a different type of sound than what long time fans expect to hear it does hold its own. It seems that everyone is more concerned about pointing fingers and screaming sellout faster than actually just taking this album for what it is. Its meant to be fun. And hey if this ends up being the album that lands Phair on TV and Radio mainstream I say good for her. She has definetely earned it. Have fun and relax....She has plenty of time left to discuss the anguishes of love and soul searching. But even your deepest writers need a break and just have some fun with music.
