Playing to a crowd that included Dave Grohl, Vincent Gallo, Shane West,
David Spade and No Doubt's Tony Kanal, Slash's new band Velvet Revolver ?
the original G'n'R line-up with Scott Weiland on the mic ? apparently went
down a storm when they played an intimate gig last week.
Speculation was rife that the new band was a 'convenient partnership
designed to boost mutually unstable careers', but playing a short set at the
El Rey Theatre, California last Thursday the band's explosive set that
included versions of 'Bodies' (Sex Pistols), Stone Temple Pilots's 'Sex Type
Thing' and 'Slither', G'n'R's 'It's So Easy' and Nirvana's 'Negative Creep'
laid to rest such loose talk.
Weiland said: "My heart and soul is into Velvet Revolver right now. We were
in the middle of our set [at sound check] and I just kind of went over to
those guys and went, 'I feel like we've been on tour for about a year now.'
The chemistry's there. It's a band. Duff, Dave [and I] spent a month
together in the mountains in Washington in a secluded area, just recently.
so we've gotten to know each other pretty intimately."
Slash: "The chemistry is perfect. It just fits. It's like all of a sudden we
are just us, all five of us, and it just happened like that."
Duff: "And we really bonded as friends, as brothers, in a relatively short
time."
The band are still looking for a producer and they'll probably record the
album on their own before bothering with a record deal.

Was Izzy at this show? The guy always seemed the most talented in the band and his first solo album was terrific. Just interested if Stradlin' has made his peace with the rest of the band.
