Georges Simenon wrote hundreds of novels, most of them detective and crime stories, and many featuring his famed Inspector Maigret.

His American publisher, Harcourt/Harvest, is reissuing more than a dozen of these short crime novels with new covers and relatively low prices. They are great reads. Simenon was adept at creating atmosphere and suspense with dialogue and economy of words.
