According to Warren Cohen of Rolling Stone, the amount of music available in the Apple's iTunes Music Store could double, from 200,000 songs to 400,000 songs, within the next four months.

Apple is reportedly also paying attention to concerns about teens without access to credit cards. "Apple reps say they are looking into stored-value cash cards teens could use for music purchases."

On a slightly different note, I was chatting with an Apple employee last night and I noted aloud that they had removed Madonna's album cover from the display that adorns the front of the Apple store. Finally, I said, since the album hasn't been available for some time. And why is that? My source pointed out that it was available at first, but Madonna demanded it be removed because she only wants her albums sold as complete albums, not one song at a time.

I know Apple insists that albums may only appear within the store if they are available as individual tracks as well, and playing hardball with Madonna seems to back that up, but I found one exception quite by accident (Steven Curtis Chapman's All About Love) and there may be others. The Apple employee was quite shocked to hear this, and insisted that it couldn't be true, but that's just the Reality Distortion Field at work. It's true, which makes me wonder why Madonna couldn't be accommodated in the same way? Then again, who cares about Madonna anyway. Forget her. Bring on the indies!
