Whither the $.99?

When you pay the Apple Music Store, MusicNet, Pressplay, or Rhapsody your $.99 fora tune, where does the money go? Check out the cool graph at Business 2.0. According to them, 40% goes to the hosting site, 30% to the label, 12% (average) to the artist, 10% to various slug middlemen, and 8% to the publisher. Pretty tempting to own your own label in the Digital Age, isn't it?

Unconfirmed rumor has placed Apple's cut at 35%, not 40%, but the label is responsible for the rest of the split, so yeah, the label business is the business to be in. High risk, but they seem to be making some bank!
