Blogcritics Design Update
Published June 14, 2003
You may have already noticed the latest feature here at Blogcritics: Pictures! The main page of Blogcritics is really busy. Too busy perhaps, and certainly overwhelming for newcomers, so we're trying to do what we can to cut down on the impression of busyness.
I'm well aware of the irony of countering busyness with yet more "stuff" on the screen, but limited testing revealed that the impression of busyness came from too much text, so we're breaking up the text just a little bit.
For now, two pictures should be drawn randomly from the pool of today's postings, one for each side of the two pullouts at the top of the page. Obviously the pool of available pictures is much larger by the end of the day than the beginning! Right now there are a couple of issues that result in missing pictures every now and then. Chief among them is a bad habit of Amazon's, but I'll make sure I resolve all others.
The pictures are pretty, but if you don't see one you like, hit refresh and get two more. And if it's early in the day (just after midnight, for example), you'll have to post something to populate the pool of pictures. I'll come up with a way around that soon.
