Phish sings the National Anthem

Anyone find is strange that Phish sang the National Anthem at last nights Game 4 of the NBA Finals? I can see how the NBA would hire the like of Mariah Carey (at the All Star Game) and Jewel (game 2 at halftime I believe), but four guys who look like science teachers? Goodness, which demographic is NBA trying to appeal to now?

Why should the contenders for the spot of National Anthem be judged on image? To that point, what's more American, people who look like science teachers or people who look like prostitutes?

Here's why they sang the National Anthem... they make good music, they have been known to sing the national anthem at their concerts and a couple other sporting events, and they're a frickin draw!

I may be flying to an assumption here, but I sense this post may have been motivated by a bit of Hippy Hating.

Hippy hating? No way! I think they sung it GREAT, and I LOVE their music. My main point was to poke fun at the NBA - it seems their latest bunch of artists on there have been mega MTV pop diva/stars and then they had Phish on! I thought it was great - I really enjoyed them singing it.

Aaah, well clarified Seth... damn me for flying to assumptions!! I now see the inconsistency you're pointing out. God, I'll deal with it as long as they don't start putting hip hop artists up there. I mean, the song does need to be sung, after all.

By the way, checked out your blog after I posted, and yeah, I sorta expected that my assumption might have been wrong. D'oh!

yea, good thing we've gotten wiser these days in "blog posts" and started stating that we "ASSUME things" rather than outright accusing people :) hehe

Bravo, all around. Now I want to see the White Stripes at halftime!
