38 Skynyrd anyone?

2003 marks LS's 30th anniversary, and in addition to this album of new material, there will be a 2 CD set and a tribute album. This is their first studio album in three years and reflects on the world events of the last 3 years. Inevitably, 9-11 crops up in several songs, most notably 'Red, White & Blue'. Some might call RW&B; jingoistic and it might be. Its in keeping with patriotic output of several Country superstars. Most notably the song is very catchy, with simple lyrics and is bound to go down well live. It is, not surprisingly, the first single from the CD. Vicious Cycle is a varied collection, often sounding not unlike 38 Special, Johnny Van Zant's former band. This is not a bad thing, making the album very accessible and jolly. Yes, there are only original members left, but who really cares? The only downer on the CD is the "bonus" track, an excrementaly-challenged reworking of 'Gimme Back my Bullets,' featuring Kid Rock. Why they felt the need to include this aural rubbish on the CD is beyond me. Overall, its an enjoyable Southern rock ride, with very few lows and a lot of highs. A perfect summer album.
