Why Is MJ So Damned Weird?

For a while I thought he was possessed by the malevolent spirit of Klaus Nomi, but now I know it's just dad, dollars and adoration my commentary on MSNBC:

you can't help asking yourself, what caused this whole, highly eccentric mess? The public was more than willing to forgive Jackson's whispered oddities 20 years ago: He was a dancing whirlwind, a moonwalking marvel, a slightly dangerous blender of seemingly disparate musical styles into a consummate whole. It didn't matter that his face seemed to be shifting, or that he liked animals (a lot).

What was whimsical at 24, however, is just freakish at 44 - what was cute is now sinister. If Jackson was DNA-tested and found to be an alien, no one would be particularly surprised: "Ah, that explains a lot!" For a little while I thought he was even stranger than that....
