Ataris "so long...Astoria"

Being a native from Indiana, I was eagerly awaiting the Ataris Sony Records debut album, so long, Astoria. True to form, these amazing punk rockers did not let me down. Yes, there were some issues that I has with some of the instrumentation being a bit monotonous at times, but overall this release is an exceptional display of the palette of talent that the band members in the Ataris draw from.

The spectrum of songs played on this CD is as varied it gets. The vocals, as always, were clean, crisp and superbly mastered. The guitars and drums lacked that punk rock “luster” that the Ataris have become known for, but for the most part were still far above the average punk rock rip off band getting air play today.

Overall, this album is a great punk rock disc. Great for driving down the road in—even better to listen to after a horrible breakup. Not exactly what I would call “moshable”, but, I am not sure that is what they were going for either. At the very least, this CD is a personal best for these hoosier punk rockers, and a great first major label effort.
